When we are considering on Kandy we can not miss the "Kandy perahara". (Esala Perahera)It is a cultural pegeant. I went to see that great annual pegeant. Dalada perahera and four Devala's perahera were included to that greatest Esala perahera.
Four occassions were included to that. They were athule perahera, kumbal perahera, Randoli perahera and Devala perahera. Esala perahara began by setting up the four posts. There was a small perahera which was parade around the post during five days. It was athule perahera. on the sixth day Dalada perahera and four devala's perahera parade along the specific roads during the five days. It was larger than the athule perahera. That was the Kumbal perahera. There was the Randoli Perahera in last two days at the night. It was very very beautiful and amazing. Lots of people have come to see it.
There were drummers, whippers, various kinds of dancers, elephants and proud Nilames. There were elephants over than hundred who were decorated and illuminated with very expensive shiny costumes and pieces of shiny metals. Four deval's perahera were behind the Dalada perahera. It was like a carnival and a fairy land. lots of people have gathered to Kandy. There were so many vendors who were selling sweets, various kind of ornements ect. Man stalls such as tea, coffee also were there. Kandy perahera was a treat for my eyes. I am telling to cometo Sri Lanka in next year and enjoy it. Never miss it.

Advantages: Steeped in culture and history, Beautiful equatorial climate , Amazing sights sounds and experiences Disadvantages: Heat can get oppressive, Water undrinkable - use bottled at all times. Terrorist incident at airport unfortunate, but likely to be a one off.
