This year, we mostly went to Italy.
We had booked a hotel a little to the south of Rome for a few nights as we wanted to visit places outwith the city but changed our plans for the Saturday night and tried to book a hotel in Rome itself. Not an easy task (at least not on my budget). Oh sure, you can stay in a pit close to Termini station, but not being suicidal, or wishing to part company with my belongings, and always leaving myself the option of swinging a cat should the chance arise, I'm afraid that's not for me.
Long story short...after several near things (literally) we ended up booking the Sheraton.

a central, convenient location - that said, we still had a budget that we needed to stick to if we wanted to be able to afford such trifles as food when we got there.
Our choice, after a good deal of consideration, was the Sheraton Waikiki. Why? Well, the information we had showed it to be a "superior 4 star" hotel (which ticked the "good enough for honeymoon" box) positioned in the heart of Waikiki between the main avenue and the ocean (putting it in an excellent location), and it was within our budget (so we could still afford to eat). Better still, I had stayed in a Sheraton hotel previously and found it to be a very positive experience and the generally good reviews we found on a selection of websites confirmed that this seemed a good choice. Advantages: Huge apartments, great pool and perfect location. Disadvantages: Not cheap!
We have been lucky enough to visit Orlando several times and by far and away the best place we have found to stay is Sheraton Vistana Villages.
Location
This hotel is situated on the Southern end of International Drive. It is a set south of the attractions and restaurants which make International drive very busy so it is much quieter than many hotels. I-drive is easily accesible in about 5-8 minutes by car, there is also a stop for the I-drive trolley bus outside the hotel. Seaworld is about 5 minutes dive away, Universal studios area is about 20 minutes north and Disneyland entrance is less than 10 minutes south. The roads are easy and there are no tolls. There is a Publix supermarket about 3 mins drive away. The journey from the International airport takes about 25 minutes and the property is easy to find.
