Easter 2011 I went to the town of Kas in Turkey for 2 weeks.
Kas is on the med coast in the province of Antalya. We flew into Dalaman airport and it took us about 2 ½ hours to get to Kas. You can also fly to Antalya which is about the same distance the other side of Kas.
We approached Kas from a turn off (Attaturk Boulevard) from the main coast road D400. This turn off road quite a steep downhill to the small bay of Kas.

Kas is a small town developed from a fishing village and is still attractive. Kas is a harbour in a small bay with steep sides up to the mountain range at the back the development has been small.

Our hotel the Aqua Princess was right at the end of the bay just before the beginning of the walk to big pebble beach which I described in an earlier review. There is also a beach called small pebble beach in the centre of Kas .
Kas has many hotels and guest houses it also has a camp site. http://hotels.lonelyplanet.com/turkey/kas-r1976019/ has a good selection of places to stay on its website.

Walking around Kas you will find some of the roads cobbled. There are many cafes, bars and restaurants throughout the small town and a few shops. We visited a few of the bars very pleasant to sit outside sipping tea or drinking beer.
There are some Internet Cafes if you need them. Market day is Friday If you are self catering you might prefer to stock up in a supermarket in one of the bigger towns before you get to Kas. There are several shops in Kas selling craft and tourist items. There is a statue of Ataturk in a public square with an open-air coffeehouse

Kas is not somewhere to visit if you want sandy beaches to dig in and make sandcastles. The beaches are stony and pebbly no sand some of the hotels have built decking over the rocky edge over the sea. There are several of these “swimming platforms” over the sea Kalkan is the nearest place with a sandy beach or go to the gorge of Kaputas.
There are several boat trips available from Kas. The Greek island of Megisti /Kastelorizo/Meis Adasi (Turkish and Greek name) is only about 2k away.
Walking around the harbour I noticed there were adverts for snorkelling or diving lessons. My bro in law tells me it is a well known coast for good diving.

Kas is situated in a good place if you want to explore and discover old Lycian and roman buildings. There are many tombs, in fact there is one in the centre of Kas, and the hillsides have many tombs built in to them. There is an amphitheatre from Hellenistic period although nothing was happening there when we visited I believe various kinds of entertainment are held here.
We hired a car but if you do not want to drive (Husband found the Turkish driving quite crazy ) there are many trips available to the archaeological sites those fairly nearby include KaÅŸ is also a good base for exploring the plentiful ancient Lycian cities and archaeological sites such as Demre (Kale), Patara, Xanthos (Kınık), Letoön, Saklıkent and Tlos. Or you could do as we did and just explore the inland mountain scenery /wildlife and villages.

If you want night life then there are several cafes hotels where music is available see http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Middle_East/Turkey/Antalya_Ili/Kas-1835053/Nightlife-Kas-TG-C-1.html

There are a lot of steep hilly roads and paths in and around Kas so I would not recommend it to an elderly or a disabled person.
We enjoyed our holiday here and would be happy to return one day.
