Hanging Gardens of Wellington

Advantages: Nice stroll, good plants
Disadvantages: Steep

If you only can spare time to seek out one plant in New Zealand, it would have to be the most famous of all its plants - the silver fern. If, on the other hand, you are a nature lover and you find yourself with a free afternoon to spend in Wellington (New Zealand's capital city), then I strongly recommend the Botanic Garden for its plants, scenic views and pleasant strolls. For everyone else, I'd still recommend it, but only after you have taken your fill of the Te Papa museum (which is my number one "must-see" recommendation for Wellington). The gardens span some 25 hectares and if you are anything like me, they will fill as much time as you have to spare and then some. People with bad knees or small children be warned though - it's pretty steep and you may struggle a bit! There are some mobility scooters available though. I came here ...

The Wellington Hotel

Advantages: Location, freindly helpful staff
Disadvantages: bit tired/dated

We are just back from 4 nights in The Wellington Hotel. We booked it back in Jan'07 thru an online hotel booking site (I may have mentioned it in other reviews) We also booked flights directly with BA thru their website. We had stayed in NewYork about 2 years ago in a YMCA in the upper westside. However as my oldies were coming with us we had to book a hotel. We booked a suite at The Wellington for around £780 for 4 adults for 4 nights and the BA flights from ABZ cost around £1,200 for the 4 of us. We arrived at JFK around 1600hrs and after clearing immigration and a lenghty taxi journey we arrived at the hotel about 1800hrs. The hotel looked impressive from outside, the lights of Times Square were visable from the front door. The reception area is very nice, a huge chandalier greets you. The reception desk is small and quite ...

Mansfield Park

Advantages: Erm.....none?
Disadvantages: Too many to mention!

Well, I'm not really sure where to start with this! I guess I should start right from the beginning - Mansfield Park. This TV dramatisation of a Jane Austin novel. I'll give you a basic plot overview: Mansfield Park is the home of a wealthy family, the Bertram family. They take in a young and less well-off relative to give her the best education, and all the good advantages of being well-off. This lucky girl was Fanny Price. The poor girl is completely up-rooted from everything she knows, friends and family, house etc. You follow her through a series of events, including having to hold herself against the wealthy, and the poor and all about the sexual politics in the new world she is becoming accustomed to. Now, for the DVD. I'll start with the actors, some of which I knew, and some I'd never heard of before, and after this ...
