As soon as we arrived in resort we headed straight for the beach. We wanted food and desperately needed to strech out and relax after hours of delays.

Set right on the beach Kavouria restaurant was just the perfect spot for both. We grabbed a table right out front. The tables were set all the way out to the sand but still covered by the canopy. Our 2 year old was happily playing in the sand while we ordered coffees and and took a look at the menu.

The restaurant was laid out in two parts on one side a relaxing bar and the other side a sit down restaurant both with tables inside in the cool and also up to the beach watching over the sea and the great view of mainland Greece and Albania.

We first had some Cafe Frappe ( iced coffee) which was very refreshing very popular in Greece. We sat relaxing with these for a while while we waited for one of the front tables in the restaurant side to become available.

Once the table was free a waiter came over to and carried our drinks across for us. The menu was filled with things we wanted to try so we ended up ordering too much but as the prices were soo cheap we didn't even feel guilty for over ordering.

We ordered some bread with a selection of tzaziki, humous, and taramousalata to start with.

These were clearly all home made and absolutely fantastic. I wasn't too keen on the humous. The taramousalata was just supurb and definately fresh this was the favourite choice for my son and actually had to stop him to leave room for his pasta. Tzaziki is quite strong has a great flavour but not the thing to order unless your prepared with breath mints if your heading straight out afterwards.

Main course arrived we ordered a pasta bolognaise for our son and they were more than happy to organise a half portion and to swap the dish onto a cold plate. I think you can safely say that it was good as the plate was pretty much wiped clean even after a large starter.

My husband ordered the Calamari which was served with home made chunky chips ( we knew they were home made as we saw the little old ladies sat peeling and chopping the potatoes out the back of the restaurant on our way in) and a side salad. The Squid was lovely and full of flavour and it was really clear that the freshness of fish makes a great difference to the taste. This was a world apart from the stuff you get in the supermarkets back home. The chips came out really thick cut chunky style and not at all greasy.

My main course was the Mousaka probably the most famous Greek dish. It arrived in its own little clay pot. It was extreemely hot that I needed a while to let it cool but by the time I sorted out the little ones meal it was cool enough to dig in. This again was fantastic and the different flavours really compliment each other really well.

After that we went back and generally spent the majority of our days nipping in and out from the beach for drinks and shade in the bar, lunch in the restaurant. As the tables were on the beach we barely had to leave the bar except for a dip in the sea. The evenings we generally ventured out trying different places but did eat twice here in the evening, which with the cool evening sea breeze and the sand for the little ones it was a very popular choice for families as children could play after eating and parents could sit back and relax and not feel guilty.

This restaurant is a family business where they all worked together which was soo lovely to see. The owner was around writing orders and wandered around talking to guests, his wife was in the kitchen. His son worked the bar in the evenings with his fiance, His son-in law worked (all hours it seems) in the restaurant. His two daughters worked in the daytime while their children played in the garden or on the beach. My son ( despite the language barrier) managed to make friends with them and played alongside them throughout our holiday.
They were all so friendly and fun it was worth coming back to see them.

Menu selection
Great selection of Traditional Greek and Corfiot dishes and also some continental dishes too.

Prices
Absolute bargain
Staff
Very efficient and extreemely friendly

If your holidaying in the South of Corfu definately worth trying.

ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAYS
