Advantages: Relaxed meeting place. Good atmosphere. Good wine. Great food. Disadvantages: Gets a bit crowded on Sundays
Keith's Wine Bar is a bit of a Liverpool institution for those in the know. The bar is situated in the bohemian Lark Lane, within the suburb of Aigburth. Although it's a couple of miles south of the city centre, it's only a couple of minutes walk to Sefton Park which makes it popular with those looking to escape the hustle and bustle during the weekends.
For years the only alcohol that Keiths sold was wine and wine derivatives like ... ...won't find anything on tap. Wine is generally sold by the bottle but there is also a limited range available by the glass. Prices are pretty reasonable but be wary of buying the cheapest house wine by either the glass or bottle. It's not too good. It's seriously worth spending an extra 10p on a glass or 50p to a pound on a bottle to get something that's slightly less vinegary.

For years the only alcohol that Keiths sold was wine and wine derivatives like sherry. These days they also do bottled beers - you won't find anything on tap. Wine is generally sold by the bottle but there is also a limited range available by the glass. Prices are pretty reasonable but be wary of buying the cheapest house wine by either the glass or bottle. It's not too good. The food is excellent. The menu consists of a whole range of standard items together with daily specials. Check out the black boards for the full range. Vegetarians, vegans and meat eaters alike are well catered for. Their home made soups are a cheap and very filling option and if coupled by cheesey garlic bread make a great economic meal. If you're feeling virtuous the mixed salads are a combination of the traditional and the inventive. Meals tend to be very reasonably priced.
By far the most popular day at Keiths is Sunday. People flock from all over the city to get an enormous Sunday lunch (the gravy cannot be beated, even if you go for the vegetarian option) and then tend to stay well into the evening. It's a great place to unwind but you'll need to get there early if you want a seat as it gets very crowded.
The clientel are a mixed bunch and the atmosphere is usually pretty easy going. Students sit alongside locals while artists and musicans mingle freely with clerical workers. The music tends to be the choice of who ever is behind the bar. If you don't like it, best not to complain as they'll only turn it up.
If you need cigarettes, they only stock a limited selection behind the bar, so you're better off stocking up at one of the newsagents or off-licences on Lark Lane before.
This bar is loacted in lark Lane, which is approximately two miles outside the city centre on the edge of Sefton park.
It is always packed and you have great difficulty getting a table at most tiems but especially on a Sunday afternoon - which is my favourite time to go.
The food that is served is of a very high quality and has some nice unusual twists. It is also excellent value for money.
Draft beers are not served however they do, do botles ...
