Advantages: Attractive, unique city Disadvantages: Gets very busy in mid-summer.
Dubrovnik, in Croatia, is sometimes referred to as the Pearl of the Adriatic. The most delightful way so come across this medieval city is by cruise ship across the Adriatic. An early morning vista of white walls and terracotta roofs in the morning sun is a sight that will not be forgotten by any lucky enough to witness it. I was entranced as I gazed out from our balcony as we passed the city to enter the port.
Background
This peaceful looking gem suffered terribly in the 1990s when an attack by the Yugoslav army laid siege to the city for over 6 months. The occupants were trapped within the medieval walls and bombarded by shelling from the hills overlooking the city. There was no electricity of communication in the city itself. I visited Leeds on a business trip and needed to stay somewhere that would be close to my meeting place. AdriaticHotel appeared on Google Maps as the closest one and so I chose to stay here.
BOOKING
My colleague booked the room for me. The person was very helpful and the booking process was very simple and my colleague was also directed to their website in case she needed extra information.
LOCATION

ARRIVAL/RECEPTION
When the taxi pulled up to the hotel driveway, a member ...
Advantages: Reasonably priced, realatively quiet still, beautiful scenery Disadvantages: Food not as good as I expected (see below)
lands at Supetar, a lovely old town with beautiful beaches which are backed by pine forests. The smell is heavenly.
Split reminds me alot of an Italian resort and this is probably inevitable given that Italy lies just across the Adriatic. The beautiful people hang out in bars next to the port and sip Campari, wearing their Chanel sunglasses and designer gear. As well as the big ferries, there are also luxury cruisers and yachts moored in Split so the whole place feels very like Rimini or Cannes.
I would say that Croatia has something to offer everyone. There are the beaches, the history, the shopping and opportunites for watersports and other outdoor pursuits. Split looks like things should be expensive but they're really rather reasonable and you can holiday here quite cheaply.
I will definitely be heading back to Split in ...
