The image of Kent as the garden of England probably grew out of tales passed on by travellers who marvelled at the acres of Spring fruit blossom beside north Kent roads.Kent is one of the most conservative counties in England.It is the largest non-metropolitan county in the country but its complexity results more from its long history and its unusual geaography.Country crafts are still strong,village life is probably the strongest in Southern England.
Kent has five parts quite distict in their appearance,outlook and style.
1)North & East Kent:Almost flattened by history,this part of Kent runs North of the North Downs from Dartford through the Medway towns and the Isle of Sheppey to the now land-locked Isle of Thanet,including Canterbury,and down the coast to Dover.Here the historic associations remain - this is the territory of Swanscombe woman and Stone Age man.The east is even richer - here landed Hengist & Horsa,Julius Caesar,St Augustine,Saxons and Danes.
2)The North Downs:This is the most dramatic area scenically of the Kent landscape,running in a broad diagnol from the Surrey border across the middle of the county to spill into the Channel in the famous chalk cliffs between Folkstone & Dover.The downs has panoramic views as far as the eyes can see - lost villages and wild wooded dells - the truest wilderness in Kent are a feature of this part of the county.
3)The weald of Kent:marked by the north by the Ragstone or Greensland Ridge running from Westerham & Seven Oaks underneath Maidstone almost as far as Ashford,this rich,rural farmland sweeps south & west far into Sussex .It is essentially picture postcard Kent - mediaval villages with their timbered and Kentish waetherboarded cottages,country houses and gardens,forests and ponds.The weald of Kent is probably the most picturesque towns in Kent
4)North West Kent:an artificial area geographically and historically,this is a commuter country,increasingly sold surburbia.Much of it is still beautiful "green belt" country,especially around and to the north of Sevenoaks,but there spreading housing and industrial estates are there for all to see.
5)Romney Marsh:not one but three marshes -Romney -Wlland and Denge.Seperated by the mainland by the Royal Military Canal,running from Hythe to the Sussex border near Rye,Romney Marsh is a flat,lonely,mysterious world of sheep,fisherman,and birds.
KENT`S MAIN ATTRACTIONS:
No one to my knowledge,has yet accurately drawn up a "top ten" of attractions in Kent but my guess would put it something like this:

3)Dover Castle
4)Hever Castle
5)Chartwell House
6)Sissinghurst Castle
7)Brands Hatch
8)Lullingstone Roman Villa
9)The Pantiles & Chalybeate Spring (Tunbridge Wells)
10)Margate funfair & Winter Gardens theatre
HOW TO GET THERE:
The country`s main gateway to and from Europe by road,rail and sea,and there are new and improved ferry servises and bigger and better roads.I could keep going own about Kent all night but i think this opionion has more than enough information for those who have never been to Kent.
