Apart from it`s history Rochester has strong links to one of it`s famous residents, Charles Dickens . Many tourists come down to this part of Kent just to see where this famous man lived. Charles Dicken`s association with Rochester is soon apparent. Many of the small victorian shops and restaurants have a Dickensian theme about them. There is even a musuem dedicated to Charle`s Dickens.
Rochester comes alive with Dickens in the first week of June celebrating the work`s of the great novelist with the Dickens festival.Thousands of people come from all over the country come to Rochester to join in and celebrate. Dickens characters are brought to life , people dress up in victorian costumes and parade the streets of Rochester and the castle gardens. There is no where in the world you can see all of Dickens characters at one given time. These include Ebenezer Scrooge,Oliver Twist, Pip,Fagan , Bill Sykes and many more.
Dickensian Christmas:
At the beginning of December, Rochester comes alive yet again with the celebration of the Dickensian Christmas. Once again people dress up in victorian costumes and parade the streets of Rochester and the Castle gardens. You get choirs singing Chritmas carols on the streets. if you ever want that chritmas feeling then Rochester makes you feel that way.You also get a snow machine that blows artificial snow over the crowds, just in case the real stuff doesn`t turn up. In the evening there is a candlelit parade through the high street. It`s a spectacle not to be missed.
Rochester offers lots of modern hotels and nice B&B places. A nice place to visit and relax while enjoying the many attraction and events the City has to offer.
Advantages: Freindly Disadvantages: For the More Mature Traveller

I stayed at this hotel for work, arrived on a Monday night and stayed 2 nights.
I phoned before I arrived, lucky I did mainly it was to double check where they were but I asked about meals etc, some hotels have room service. The Chef goes home at 9pm so whilst on the phone the lady asked me if I wanted anything. I said a chicken salad, as it was quite late. I checked ... ...at the door, I was surprised at the prompt service.
The Hotel is set in very nice surroundings I didn’t realise until the next day, it is on the main road but you don’t know whilst in the hotel it’s self. The hotel is very close to the centre of Canterbury and from the car park you can see the Cathedral. I would say the centre is about 10 mins drive, so a fair walk but a pleasant one at that.
The staffs are very friendly though it wasn’t a busy ...

Quick review of Kent, Miami
The Dickens experience at Rochester was a great day out.
I feel that there was too many visitors on the day, but to experience the characters from Charles Dickens Life and books was brilliant.
I would recommend this to anybody.
This is not a Disability friendly event, as the crowds are big. ...
