Married to James 29th April 2006, we have 2 cats Jack and Jerry and have recently moved to Ivybridge in Devon (about 10 minutes away from Plymouth) I work in recruitment as a senior consultant and love it have been in the industry for c.9 years.
I stayed at this hotel for work, arrived on a Monday night and stayed 2 nights. I phoned before I arrived, lucky I did mainly it was to double check where they were but I asked about meals etc, some hotels have room service. The Chef goes home at 9pm so whilst on the phone the lady asked me if I wanted anything. I said a chicken salad, as it was quite late. I checked in and about 5 minutes later my chicken salad was at the door, I was surprised at the prompt service.
The Hotel is set in very nice surroundings I didn’t realise until the next day, it is on the main road but you don’t know whilst in the hotel it’s self. The hotel is very close to the centre of Canterbury and from the car park you can see the Cathedral. I would say the centre is about 10 mins drive, so a fair walk but a pleasant one at that.
The staffs are very friendly though it wasn’t a busy hotel it was extremely pleasant.
The room I had was very spacious, I had a trouser press, en suit, telly and tea and coffee making facilities the room I had, had a double bed and a single bed however it was set out very nicely and the room wasn’t crowded. It was like a family room however I am not 100% certain that they could cater for children, there was no Children's menu however they are flexible with meals for people. I didn't see anything for children in my visit there.
Then garden looked very nice and spacious, whilst eating in the restaurant I saw a squirrel, you don’t see them very often anymore.
I would recommended this hotel to couples wanting to get away and relax, they have a pool and Jacuzzi but they don’t have a bar as such, you can ask any member of staff and they will get what you want to either your room or the lounge. They don’t really have room service but you can go to reception and ask them, kind of a self-service I suppose. I wouldn’t recommended this to groups of lads/lasses going to Canterbury for nights out as I think this is mainly for the more mature traveller.
They also have self-catering apartments that you can higher out.
I ate in the restaurant the 2nd night of my stay and the food was very nice but maybe not to everyone taste to start I had a shellfish salad which consist of mussels, prawns, squid etc then for main I had the Sautéed Pork Medallions in a Grain Mustard Sauce with a Hint of White Wine and Cream. The sauce is very rich although I would give this meal a good 8/10. The cost was £17 for 2 courses’, £19 for 3.
This hotel was recommend to me by a local person, although they hadn’t stayed there themselves. You can check the website www.ebury-hotel.co.uk I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and they made me feel very welcome
