Awful
Review of Sun n' Sand Beach, Kikambala by HARVEYAPOLLO326

Advantages: Hot weather
Disadvantages: Everything else

I stayed here in December 2007 and have to say I had the worst holiday ever! The resort is a secure compound and is very isolated. This left me feeling as if I was under house arrest and I could have been anywhere - This would have been ok if the sea/beach were usable. The "beach" is a narrow strip of sand with throngs of beach boys harassing you, and the sea is un swimmable and devoid of sea life. The hotel is garish in decor and very 70's. There ... Read review

Lazing at the Leopard
Review of Leopard Beach Hotel, Ukunda by tynegal

Advantages: Wonderful setting and spa facilities
Disadvantages: Beds very hard

We spent three nights here after a 2-week Kuoni safari through Kenya and were looking for sunshine and indulgence. The sun hardly shone but the indulgence made up for it! The hotel is situated in well maintained gardens on the beach south of Mombasa and the rooms are bungalows or pretty 2-storey blocks. We had a standard room which was clean, spacious, had a good sized bathroom and patio doors to your own outdoor seating area overlooking gardens ...
...door one day, rang reception and it was fixed within hours. Nothing was too much trouble for the very friendly staff. The food was the best on the whole holiday - fresh, hot when supposed to be, plentiful and served in a lovely setting overlooking the sea. Much of the meat was cooked to order - a complete change from the safari experience where the buffet offerings were often tired and lukewarm. We were on half board so only used one of the bars/bistros ... Read review

The Joyous Jacaranda
Review of Jacaranda Hotel, Nairobi by Tadders

Advantages: Pleasant accommodation, friendly staff
Disadvantages: Potentially mangy cats!

Opened in 1964, the hotel Jacaranda is approximately a 30-45 minute drive from Nairobi Airport and although it is only 2km from the city centre, this is a peaceful place to stay surrounded by beautiful gardens. WHAT DOES IT OFFER? As well as 121 rooms (including 18 executive rooms), this 3 star hotel offers a huge reception lobby with ample seating, excellent conference facilities, 24-hour porter and room service, an outdoor swimming pool, coach/car ...
...their luck. Everyone at the Jacaranda seemed incredibly helpful. They spoke very good English and were very pleasant. The porter who carried our bags to our room even wrote down a few Kenyan words and their English translation to help us get by during our first few days. Cynical buggers that we are, we found ourselves checking our Kenyan guidebook to make sure he hadn't taught us anything offensive for a laugh, but it turned out that he was just ... Read review

Up close and personal at Treetops
Review of Treetops Hotel, Aberdare National Park by tynegal

Advantages: Eye ball to eye ball with wildlife
Disadvantages: Lots of stairs

Staying at Treetops is a unique experience - and I've now been twice. I'd go every weekend if it wasn't so far away. There is nowhere like it for getting up close and personal - with both wildlife and fellow guests! The accommodation is literally built around trees and is almost completely made of wood. The tiny 2-bed rooms smell deliciously of cedarwood and there are tree trunks up through the lounges. The viewing facilities, both indoor and outside, ...
...warning you of wildlife appearances during the night. They put food out for the birds which you can watch from a couple of feet away. Dinner - hot and delicious - is taken 'assembly' style with a neat sliding service rack in the centre of the tables and there was also afternoon tea. Delightful. You can only take a small item of luggage and the rest is stored at Outspan from where you are bussed to Treetops. You return to Outspan for breakfast. There ... Read review

giraffe manor, hotel Nirobi
Review of Giraffe Manor, Nairobi by tillymint10

Advantages: Giraffes on doostep! Views and surroundings.
Disadvantages: dont think there is any!

I visited this resort/hotel when i was in Kenya last year, i went mainly to see the giraffe's at the sancturary, they were amazing! They all looked really healthy and were well looked after, we could all pet and feed them which was such good fun, they have MASSIVE tongues! The hotel is so luxurious looking, it's a proper manor house and looks like it should be in England if it were'nt for the giraffes and surroundings! Its down a private road away ...
...We had a quick tour of the hotel after we were done with the giraffes, the rooms are really spacious and very clean, whilst it is'nt really modern it still looks up to date whilst inkeeping with the Hotels character and look. The resturant inside looked really nice, the menu was interesting and quick extensive so there is plenty to choose from. The best thing about the Hotel is the view over the nature reserve, the fields are suprisingly green and ... Read review
