With Keycamp you can choose from a number of 'camping' options. The basic and cheapest being their Canvas tents, the basic mobile home 'Classic Midi', followed by Supernovas and Villa Grande. We opted for the Supernova which consisted of a lounge come dining room, kitchen, bathroon (shower) and 2 bedrooms. The Villa Grandes did look more luxiourious and come with a micorwave -BUT - they are more expensive as well.
We had a double room (bed, wardrobe and chest of draws but not enough room to swing a cat!). Our 2 year old slept on the the bottom bunk in the small bedroom with our baby in a travel cot in the same room. The whole mobile home was well furnished and fully equiped with kitchen utensils - but remeber to take your matches to light the stove in order to boil the kettle (after an 8hour drive frmo Calais I was desperate for a cup of tea but had no matches!) There was a a radion provided although we didn't use it. Luckily you are provided with a fan so that helped during te hot evenings.
You do need to take your own sheets and towels which doesn't help when trying to pack for a self catering holiday but at least you know they are clean! We managed to pack everything we needed into our saloon car (including 2 children in car seats, a buggy, food, beach tent, clothes)
The actual site was in the grounds of an old chateux and had a small lake which my husband could fish. There was a fantastic childrens play park, a bar with little play area, and childrens fun stations. There was aslo a small shop and takeaway. Our 2yr old daughter loved it all and made some new friends. There was an outdoor pool for swimmers and an indoor toddler pool and water slides which were great - the first time my daughter would ever go on a water slide and my 4month old baby was happy to cool off in the water. We were really lucky with the weather (we went in that really hot week towards the end of June) but even if it had rained the pool was great for the children. The only issue was that mem must wear proper swimming trunks (the short lycra style!?!? Yuk) My husband (and many others) did not own a pair - he does now - not surprisingly you could buy them in the site shop!
The reps all seemed very young to me but were all very friendly and helpful.
The site was ideally placed for the beach, site seeing (see my review on Mont St Michel) and shopping with the town of Granville about 10 miles away. There was a Hypermarket nearnbuy but it was not that good so we used the one in Granville.
There was a wonderful zoo about 20 miles away - completely geared around children - even in the toilets there was a toilet for mummy and a toilet for child side by side in the one cubicle - how cute is that!!
I was a bit dubious going on hoiday with a young baby but I can highly recommend this type of holiday - you have your own space and it really was a home from home in that resepct.
Advantages: Extremely affordable family holidays Disadvantages: Have to like camping/mobile homes
Keycamp is a great company for those on a tight budget who still want to get abroad for some summer sun. You must however enjoy the outdoor life as the accomodation offered is either in tents or mobile homes on sites in France, Spain, Italy, Germany and Holland.
Don't let this put you off however as the tent accomodation includes fully errected, large tents with proper beds and mattresses, a fridge, gas hob (no oven), electric light, tables, chairs ... ...The mobile homes are of various sizes and also have all of the above but also a proper cooker and microwaves, cd players, heating, toilet/shower room and sinks.
You can either get a brochure from travel agents or look at the keycamp website online (booking on-line or by phone available). Prices vary depending on what time of year you travel, how long you go for, what type of accomodation you choose, which site, how and where you cross the channel ...

Advantages: Well organised, affordable, ideal for children Disadvantages: Might not be your cup of tea
First stop the keycamp website - has most of what you need to decide on which site to visit. Our criteria was to visit France with two children (18 months and 4yrs) in September for a week.
Must be affordable, enjoyable and warm. We usually go for independant travel. Book the flight and maybe the first night, but then we make it up as we go. The idea of Keycamps did not immediately appeal but we thought it would be easy to entertain the children ... ...booked to stay at Tours, not our original choice but we wanted to stay in one of the mobile homes, which seems to reduce your options.
The tents looked good fun, however we arrived after 3 weeks of rain which much have put a damper on the tent brigade. Atleast with the mobile homes you can get out of the weather and everything is slef contained. We had a Supernova which was adequate - once we had persuaded the office that our gas really had run ...

Quick review of Key Camp Family Holidays
I have been on holiday with Keycamp for the past 4 years, for the past 3 years stopping at Houlgate (camping de la vallee) I cannot fault the company or the campsite The holidays are miles cheaper than any other company and just as good.Booking is easy and accurate online and if you need to contact the office for any reason they are faultless.
The couriers are 99% great (1or 2 are obviously in the wrong jobs!!!!)
The campsite is superb in everyway ,clean, tidy, nice quiet bar and the owners are friendly and helpful.
If you want a good company and a good campsite try these! ...

Advantages: Affordable, family orientated, kids loved it Disadvantages: 3 1/2 drive with no air con , ants
We booked this family holiday to theVendee region of France about 5 months before we were due to go.Reasons for this were that neither of us had driven on the continent before , also with 2 young boys we didn't know how they or we would cope with them abroad.
Booking the hoilday was easy as we knew where we wanted to go .
The only draw back is the fact of what I think is a lot of supplements
eg if you have a roof rack size of car
if you go via ... ...overnight then you need a cabin
The kids loved going on the ferry Portsmouth to St Malo
We had a 3 1/2 car journey the other side, but driving in France is a dreams compared to the M5 or M4.
The tent on arrival was bigger than expected with the kids having a room each
The showers and toilet facilities were 2nd to none, and all nationalities got on really well.
I loved this holiday with the family, beach everyday , French food and people fantastic
