We went for our first holiday as a family of 4 in June this year. We spent 7 days with Keycamp at there Menhirs site in Normandy. It was FANTASTIC.

We booked in October last year and the total cost for ferry and mobile home was in the region of £500.

With Keycamp you can choose from a number of 'camping' options. The basic and cheapest being their Canvas tents, the basic mobile home 'Classic Midi', followed by Supernovas and Villa Grande. We opted for the Supernova which consisted of a lounge come dining room, kitchen, bathroon (shower) and 2 bedrooms. The Villa Grandes did look more luxiourious and come with a micorwave -BUT - they are more expensive as well.

We had a double room (bed, wardrobe and chest of draws but not enough room to swing a cat!). Our 2 year old slept on the the bottom bunk in the small bedroom with our baby in a travel cot in the same room. The whole mobile home was well furnished and fully equiped with kitchen utensils - but remeber to take your matches to light the stove in order to boil the kettle (after an 8hour drive frmo Calais I was desperate for a cup of tea but had no matches!) There was a a radion provided although we didn't use it. Luckily you are provided with a fan so that helped during te hot evenings.

You do need to take your own sheets and towels which doesn't help when trying to pack for a self catering holiday but at least you know they are clean! We managed to pack everything we needed into our saloon car (including 2 children in car seats, a buggy, food, beach tent, clothes)

The actual site was in the grounds of an old chateux and had a small lake which my husband could fish. There was a fantastic childrens play park, a bar with little play area, and childrens fun stations. There was aslo a small shop and takeaway. Our 2yr old daughter loved it all and made some new friends. There was an outdoor pool for swimmers and an indoor toddler pool and water slides which were great - the first time my daughter would ever go on a water slide and my 4month old baby was happy to cool off in the water. We were really lucky with the weather (we went in that really hot week towards the end of June) but even if it had rained the pool was great for the children. The only issue was that mem must wear proper swimming trunks (the short lycra style!?!? Yuk) My husband (and many others) did not own a pair - he does now - not surprisingly you could buy them in the site shop!

The reps all seemed very young to me but were all very friendly and helpful.

The site was ideally placed for the beach, site seeing (see my review on Mont St Michel) and shopping with the town of Granville about 10 miles away. There was a Hypermarket nearnbuy but it was not that good so we used the one in Granville.

There was a wonderful zoo about 20 miles away - completely geared around children - even in the toilets there was a toilet for mummy and a toilet for child side by side in the one cubicle - how cute is that!!

I was a bit dubious going on hoiday with a young baby but I can highly recommend this type of holiday - you have your own space and it really was a home from home in that resepct.
