Ireland, or The Emerald Isle as it is sometimes called, is host to more than 350 golf courses, with some of these being included easily as being some of the finest courses in the world.

Most of them are uncrowded, and an average round lasting about 3 hours. It's great climate allows golf to be an active sport all year round, and the great drainage of the soil means sure footing even in wet conditions.

The Killeen golf course is one of the most famous in Ireland, and definatly worth a look in if you could.

It was founded in 1893, and was expanded in 1972 to make the course what it is today. It is set in absolutly gorgeous scenary, with Kildare being one of the most beautiful of countys in Ireland.

It occupies about 110 acres of land, measures 5, 815 metres and the introduction of six completely new holes, designed by the famous Craddock and Ruddy partnership, have a distinct air of Florida golf about them.

The greens and fairways are surrounded by woods and lakes, and the the best back drop being the famous and highest mountain range, the Macgillycuddy's Reeks. The grand canal also runs alongside, and beautiful views of a studfarm is within sight.

The toilet facilities are what you would expect at such an exclusive club, very well kept and immaculatly clean, both male and female.

The staff were very friendly, we were welcomed by a member of the clubs committee although I'm not sure if this happens everyday, he was maybe just there by chance when we arrived!

The ClubHouse itself seemed all fairly new. There is a bar (yipee!), serving a wide selection of drinks which was nice(Their leather sofas were a great thing!), as well as a bar food menu. There was a resturant area with again, a good selection on the menu.

Car parking facilities were adequate, and there were what seemed like newly refurbished changing rooms available for your use.

There was a ProGolf shop, catering for your needs from clothing to equipment, with top brands on sale.

This really is a great course, for people who enjoy the game, or like me, just want to spectate. You really can't help but enjoy the views of the surrounding lands, and I'm sure all this golf specifications will/would be great for keen golfers.... as for me, I'll just watch for now!

Ive recently taken up golf myself and play on Birminghams municipal courses, the fairways are wet and full of divots and the greens are not much better, i would love to play on a better course such as this one day.
