Tombs of the Kings

Advantages: Interesting, fun
Disadvantages: No place for refreshments

Cyprus is one of the best places to visit if you like exploring archaeological sites and ruins. After a recent visit to the island, I have decided to write about a few of these places. At the top of my list is the Tombs of the Kings. Tombs of the kings is a huge ancient cemetery in Paphos. Despite the name, the Tombs of the Kings was never used for royal burials. Instead, rich citizens were laid to rest in the site. Tombs of the Kings is named so because of the impressive appearance of the tombs. The area was used for burials during the Hellenistic and Roman times. After this, it was used as a refuge place for early Christians during times of persecution. Portrait of Paphos

Advantages: Charming combination of the old and the new give this resort something for everyone.
Disadvantages: Heat oppressive at height of summer. Some areas rather loud and built up

on his visit to Cyprus in 45 AD. The Paphos of today is left with an impressive legacy of its various inhabitants throughout the ages with many archaeological remains and historical sites. There are the Ptolemy influenced Tomb of Kings to the more "modern" Roman remains and mosaics, all of which can be visited. In fact, you could describe Paphos as very much an open museum. UNESCO have included the whole town on its list of cultural and natural treasures of world heritage. ~*~ PAPHOS TODAY ~*~ Cyprus is renowned for its warm hospitality, and Paphos was certainly no exception, with all the locals being very friendly. In Cyprus, People say hello to you because they want to greet you, not just as a way to attract your attention so that they can try and sell you something. I found Paphos to be much larger than I was expecting, as ...

Review of Paphos (Cyprus)

Paphos tombs.

Advantages: Very entertaining and be a relaxing walk.
Disadvantages: No sale of drinks on site, so take plenty!

If you are ever in Cyprus, The tombs of the the kings is a must see. You can enjoy hours of a relaxed walk viewing old tombstones and thinking back through history, in Paphos, in the Greek side of Cyprus As you walk into the area, there is a board telling you about what has happened throughout history, giving you a mental picture. You can then decide where to go next, but as the tombstones are numbered, it makes sense to start at number one. The tombstones are spread over the area of nearly half a mile and finishes at the sea front where there are large rocks. The tombstones themselves, depending on how large they are, have around four to eight graves in them, although all of the bodies have seemingly been removed. They are quite well preserved and you can still see the chips in the walls where the tombs were originally made, but ...
