Kingsgate Hotel Autolodge, Christchurch

Advantages: Well located,quiet,comfortable,clean,excellent service,
Disadvantages: breakfast time in the restaurant a little hectic

...We used this excellent hotel on two occasions at either end of our journey around South island. Staying at the recently refurbished Elms Hotel on Papanui Road (their claim that "Nothing is too much trouble" we certainly found to be true!) was a pleasure. Reception staff offered a warm welcome, and a great willingness to assist us in finalising and resolving problems with our travel arrangements.Free secure storage was kindly provided for two exceedingly large pieces of luggage that we did not require for our 10 days moving around South Island. The hotel is very handily placed more or less midway between the international airport and the centre of Christchurch itself. Advantages: comfortable quiet rooms,hotel situated conveniently for access to the City CBD, and 20 minutes maximum from Auckland International Airport
Disadvantages: poor timing on our part, we arrived at reception early evening just after 2 parties,quite a wait as a result

...We arrived at Auckland International Airport from Fiji in late afternoon.It took a while to clear immigration and customs,and ,more prolonged, to clear the checks of the NZ Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries Quarantine service, as we had 2 wood based gift products purchased in Nadi. Hire car,courtesy of EZY,was picked up from the airport information desk and airport car park. The 3 star hotel was reached via an easy drive on good quality dual carriageway roads ( the South Western Motorway and Hugh Watt Drive) in 20 minutes, and through the Royal Oak district. Greenlane is a pleasant leafy residential suburb of Auckland, adjacent to Cornwall park. There is a good bus service into central Auckland, and importantly the hotel is well placed for access to the Southern Motorway which we used to head south to Rotorua... Read review

Advantages: Near to city centre, borders 2 acre park, shuttle bus services
Disadvantages: Bar closes a little early

...and it made the stay in christchurch extra speacil. The decor of the hotel did look a little dated but the warm atmosphere by the numerous fireplaces and welcoming staff did not make this an issue! The dining area was spacias with big tables which were more then big enough to hold all the variety of food that is available, it was also priced quite fairly so you can enjoy it knowing that theres still plenty of cash to go out and about with. The bar area was seperated into 3 diffrent rooms, each with individual character overlooking a large pond so again there was great scenery. The hotel was safe and secure and the facilities were second to none, with free day passes to a local gym with sauna etc. Free pass and hire of golf equipment to name a few.
