We arrived at Auckland International Airport from Fiji in late afternoon. It took a while to clear immigration and customs, and ,more prolonged, to clear the checks of the NZ Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries Quarantine service, as we had 2 wood based gift products purchased in Nadi.
Hire car, courtesy of EZY,was picked up from the airport information desk and airport car park.
The 3 star hotel was reached via an easy drive on good quality dual carriageway roads ( the South Western Motorway and Hugh Watt Drive) in 20 minutes, and through the Royal Oak district.
Greenlane is a pleasant leafy residential suburb of Auckland, adjacent to Cornwall park. There is a good bus service into central Auckland, and importantly the hotel is well placed for access to the Southern Motorway which we used to head south to Rotorua.Central Auckland is 10 to 15 minutes away
Reception was busy and involved a longish wait for room allocation as we followed 2 coach parties in.
Our room was spacious with 2 queen size beds, comfortable, , looking out onto a central courtyard ( with heated swimming pool which we did not have an opportunity to use) through patio doors.Even though the hotel was busy on both occasions that we stayed there, the room was still quiet.Facilities were good:satellite TV,coffee making, internet access, and what we found particularly welcome the first class breakfasts taken in room.Brilliant value and a fine start to the day at just over NZ$12 per head.....fresh croissant and percolatedcoffee, fruit, yoghurt, cereal, fruit juice, what more could you want?
Main hotel facilities include lifts to upper floors,a small gift shop, and a well appointed restaurant and bar.Logans Bar is decorated tastefully with many interesting large framed action photographs of the All Blacks / British Lions RugbyTour.Prices were reasonable, menu choices varied, and the restaurant was busy in the evening. For ourselves we ventured out to eat in nearby Royal Oak where there was a good selection of small eateries.
We spent a comfortable very reasonably priced2 nights, each costing NZ$130 (roughly £44 GBP) through an agency. We would have no hesitation in booking to stay there again. Parking was plentiful.
