Koblenz has a history all of its own and shares the geographical interest of being where the Rhine and Moselle meet - at the Deutsches Ecke guarded by the Kaiser. The sheer size of the monument makes it hard to imagine how severe flooding almost submerged him some years ago.

Sat and enjoyed the atmosphere of the World Cup in 2006 in 'fan fest' and the party afterwards as Germany won Sweden. The whole town came alive - so did the shops. The sheer size of the monument makes it hard to imagine how severe flooding almost submerged him some years ago. From Koblenz railway station you can travel across Germany into Austria and has just completed full refurbishment which makes it more accessible. Culture and Society are brilliant in Koblenz and well worth a visit.
Advantages: An impressive sight, easy to get to, free Disadvantages: Some people might expect "more"
was damaged by an American artillery shell and had to be removed from its position. When, after the war, Germany was occupied by the Allies, the French, under whose control Koblenz fell, proposed an idea to build a new monument in that spot, this one dedicated to peace among nations. However this never came about but when the country was officially divided and the country of West Germany was established, the new President decided to use the site to create something that would express a wish to see German unity restored again. As you walk round the footpath that forms the visitors part of the Deutsches Eck you?ll see the coats of arms of each of the Lands of Germany ? not just those of West Germany but those that ended up in East Germany and also those parts of German that were given to countries like Poland. In 1989 when the Berlin Wall ...
Advantages: a different way of christmas Disadvantages: the crowds
I have never visted Germany before but took a trip to see the Colocgne and Koblenz christmas markets.
We went with a tour company which as it happens will be another story and spent only 4 hours in Cologne but it did leave its mark on me.
They have 4 christmas markets 2 near the cathedral and 2 just a few minutes walk away.We went to the largest which was a battle to get to as we had to go through the shoppers but when we got to it we were not disappointed.
It was not as I imagined but it was brillant, small stalls all around selling christmas things and many many food stalls.
On the christmas stalls you could buy many wooden things nativity sets and the wooden displays like windmalls which you put candles in and the heat makes them turn,I got the most brillant handpainted balls and different sorts of baubles for the tree all at good ...
Advantages: Friendly, clean and efficient Disadvantages: The name might be misleading
NOT zip up the back. It costs me just about as much in petrol to drive the 60 miles or so to Prestwick Airport than it does to fly to Germany. But I digress.
Where was I?
Or, to be more accurate, where is IT?
Contrary to the impression given by it's name, this airport is NOT in Frankfurt. It's actually getting on for 70 miles south-west of the city. It's situated in the region of Rhineland called Hunsrück.
What? You're not familiar with the geography of the region?
It's slap bang in the middle of a finger of land just south of where the rivers Mösel and Rhine join forces at Koblenz.
No?
Oh for goodness sake, just go to mapquest.com
It's reasonably well situated for access to many cities in Germany, France, and Luxembourg. Indeed, bus services are co-ordinated so that the bus service compliments the flight timetable ...
