Kolomenskoe is situated in Moscow, Russia. Iīve been to Moscow twice, once in December 1999 - January 2000, and the other time was in July - August 2001. Each time I spent two weeks there, and had the opportunity to live with an old Russian couple aged close to 80, (my ex-boyfriendīs grandparents) and they lived in this particular part of Moscow.

I agree, but I saw that they had a category for it, and I thought "Hey, Iīve been there!! So why not write about it? Nobody else has yet! And probably never will!" Kolomenskoe is situated in Moscow, Russia. Iīve been to Moscow twice, once in December 1999 - January 2000, and the other time was in July - August 2001. Each time I spent two weeks there, and had the opportunity to live with an old Russian couple aged close to 80, (my ex-boyfriendīs grandparents) and they lived in this particular part of Moscow.
Since the Russians celebrate Christmas on January 7th, I was invited to come along to a church to see the Christmas ceremony, and I donīt think Iīve ever seen more beautiful churches, what an architecture! Although the queue!! to the church was so very long we decided not to go in, cold as it was! Amazing, I never thought Iīd see a queue, especially of that size to a church! Could compare it to the queues to shops when the sales after Christmas is on!
Kolomenskoe features vintage wooden structures built by many of the country's Tsars, one of the most beautiful churches and examples of Russian tent-roofed architecture in the country, and is a beautiful place to just take a snowy walk in the winter, or sunbath in summertime. Since I were there in January, with -20 degrees, the idea of sunbathing never came across my mind, even remember buying a bottle of Fanta on the way, and it got so cold I couldnīt drink it! Brrr! Actually threw it away. But walking through the snowy landscape on the small pathways in the nice park, looking down over the hills down to the Moscow River, watching kids slide down the hills on their sleighs was almost magical! It is located about 10 kilometers southeast of the Kremlin in Moscow, and covers an area of about 390 wonderful hectares. Itīs free to explore as well, and shops arenīt far away.
The village of Kolomenskoe was first mentioned in the will of the Grand Prince Ivan Kalita in 1339, but its history really begins in the 13th century when a settlement was founded there by refugees from Kolomna, fleeing from Tartar-Mongol invaders led by Batu Khan. During the 16th century, Kolomenskoe was chosen as the site of a royal summer retreat, where Ivan the Terrible stayed during his childhood and later with his first wife, Anastasia. The Kolomenskoye Estate also hosts a number of festivals and traditional Russian religious celebrations every year.
