I am currently on an overseas posting as my husband is in the RAF, we live only a few miles away from Kolossi Castle and find that it is a "must go" place for when we have visitors. It is a beautiful and historical site. Kolossi has been known by this name since before Richard the Lionheart's occupation of Cyprus in 1191 (although it was not yet described as a castle), it was reportedly here that he married Anne of Berengaria. So it has a long and exciting history! Surrounding the castle are ruins of a sugar factory and mill which you can see into, but are too dangerous to enter. The castle itself is quite small as castles go, but is also quite tall and can be hard going especially with small children in tow as the stairs to the top are very winding. I advise wearing a good pair of sturdy shoes to explore the site. Its a interesting, ancient and lovely place to spend a couple of hours of your holiday.
