We originally chose Stalis as a cheaper option to Malia for our small, girly clubbing holiday, but both myself and my friend are as modest as the size of our group, so Stalis also appealed to us as it is away from the noise and uncleanliness of Malis.

I went to Stalis in June 2006 with my female friend and we stayed at the Koni Village.
We originally chose Stalis as a cheaper option to Malia for our small, girly clubbing holiday, but both myself and my friend are as modest as the size of our group, so Stalis also appealed to us as it is away from the noise and uncleanliness of Malis.
When we arrived at Koni Village, we were impressed with the accomodation itself (didn't really notice the location too much until later, read on!) due to various factors. The hotel is comprised of numerous blocks (couldn't tell you how many), but the word village definitely describes Koni perfectly. The hotel has 2 swimming pools, a large one for the louder people of the day, and a smaller one for this people who wish to relax. Both very clean and poolside is well maintained. Their is also a very good value supermarket, but admittedly not that big - take note, there is a SPAR in Malia, save your Euros and go there, otherwise, all the Stalis supermarkets are about the same price, although it isn't expensive. In addition to this, the apartments also have their own Tennis Courts and also their own Chapel, but you'll be walking very far if you expect to visit it! Upon arrival our luggage was taken in a van to our apartment, very impressive in comparison to other holiday's I've been on where you are left to struggle with your cases.
The apartments are quite basic, we only had a studio apartment, which had a kitchenette area, bathroom, 2 beds, a dresser and a TV! But we had everything we needed to get by, it was very clean, and we had a sea view apartment (and a view of pretty much all of Stalis).
The reception was very small and basic, but due to your cases being taken to your apartments and the efficiency of reception staff, we didn't stay here too long and never needed to visit as we had no problems at all.
The restaurant had both English and Greek cuisine, was very good value for money and had the most polite waiters. The same could also be said for the bar and their staff - very polite and they gave us free cocktails!
When we left the apartments to explore the area, we were a little disappointed about the location of the hotel. It lies behind the coastal motorway of Crete which runs past Stalis to Malia and also so Hersonnissos. It never caused a problem as there are smaller pedestrian/bike roads alongside where you can walk, but it meant you were a fair way away from the beach and that there was no direct way to get to it. You had to walk quite far east or quite far west to find a road to even get into the resort centre, nevermind get to the beach. Stalis is a quiet area but has a beautiful beach and we tackled the problem of the location by getting Quad Bikes as the reps advise you not to do!
It is the easiest way to get from Malia to Stalis and is only 5 minutes down the road by this method, and the beaches were all only 10. I advise people staying at Koni to invest in some form of transport as you will otherwise spend alot of time walking, and a heck of a lot of time waiting for a bus that never comes.
On a night the apartments are very quiet and I think they are extremely suitable for families and couples alike.
Overall my holiday to Stalis at Koni Village was amazing and it was everything I hoped it could be. I would definitely visit Koni Village again, it offered us a sanctuary in Stalis that was worlds apart from the 18-30 vibe in Malia, and I found that fellow clubbers at Koni embraced the peace instead of destroying it. Very suitable for families, couples and young people alike - I imagine the only annoyance being people who decide to use quads and mopeds, as people tend to use these to reach Malia on a night, drunk or not.
We paid £284 per person for a week in at the end of June until the start of July with Direct Holidays including our insurance, in flight meals and transfers. Amazing value for money, no doubt. I hope you found this review useful.
