I’d never been to any of the Greek Islands before we visited Kos three years ago.
We stayed in Kardamena, a small resort – a former quiet fishing port, but it has been transformed in recent years into a fairly lively place with good nightlife and a fantastic beach. Usually when we go away on holiday, I want to relax, with this is just the place to do that. During the day it’s laid back, certainly not too crowded. With a small centre to the resort and the usual restaurants and bars. But you come her for the beach – it’s lovely with clean white sand stretching out into the Aegean sea.
Kos itself, is one of the consistently sunniest islands in the Aegean.. It is the third biggest of the Dodecanese Islands. It has a few historic monuments, good weather virtually all year round and it's white sand beaches are a major plus.
The capital of the island – like so many of the Greek ones is named after the island itself - Kos Town. The town is nice, but nothing too special. Reasonable shopping and ideal to give you a short break away from soakjing up the sun on the beach or by the pool.. Kos has plenty of green areas and on a sunny day it’s such a treasure to stroll around the squares and wander through the pleasant gardens. Full of cypress, eucalyptus, jarmine, lilac and hibiscus.
Prices on the island are good with dining out especially cheap – less than £15 for a 3 course meal for 2 when we were there, I seem to remember.
Our trip there certainly gave me to scent for the Greek Islands and now I know why friends of ours go to different ones year after year and ignore the rest of the Med resorts.

We stayed in Kefalos and it was perfect - absolutely beautiful. We visited Kos Town for a day though it sounds like there was lots more to see there, we're thinking of going back this year and staying in Kos Town. Sharron xxx

I wouldn't mind going to somewhere as gorgeous-sounding as Kos...after Jamaica and Egypt, of course! Great op. as usual! Made me forget British weather!

Advantages: breeze keeps you cool, you don't notice the intense heat Disadvantages: watch you don't burn, the wind is deceptive: use you sun cream more often. IT IS HOT in KOS
