Being lucky enough to have a 'girlie' week with my mum each year we spend hours scouring brochures for somewhere new to go each year (always a Greek island mind)!. Last year we decided on Kardamena - I was dubious as we are used to more 'Greek' resorts, but what a pleasant surprise!. We got to our cheap and cheerful apartment at 2.30 in the morning - it was so hot we needed a beer and luckily for us after a few minutes walk we found a bar, the drinks were real! but beware - we are sure this was a new arrivers ploy!! - returning here a few nights later we found watered down offerings - hence I cannot remember the name of the bar!!!.
Venturing down the main bar street one evening we were charged a staggering 10 euro for more horrific drinks - take note, find where the locals drink and you cannot go wrong.
Our best find was Amazon - for 25 euro per person you get an exceedingly good 3 course meal (lots of choice and no rushing), a cabaret and wait for it drink to your hearts content - cocktails, beer, wine even fishbowls!! unfortunately we found it on the second to last night boo.
In the day we had such a laugh at the KOOL POOL - and still laugh at that song!!. Sunbeds are free - just don't supply your own food and drink!. Stelios the owner taught me some wicked backgammon moves - but I never won, and his wife offeered me delicious home made soup...
We had an excellent boat trip to Kefalos, found some cracking restaurants - again eat where the Greeks eat, this resort was such a surprise in the end despite my doubts, although Kos isn't my favourite island, the people are nice, the weather good, if you get ripped off you know not to that establishment again - see it for what it is and enjoy!!!!

Advantages: weather, bars and restaurants, bus service and Greek people. Disadvantages: Kos town is very lively after 11pm for families with young children. beaches mainly stoney
