Advantages:
Good weather . Plenty of good beaches . Small enough to explore . Friendly locals . ferries available for 'Island Hopping'
Disadvantages:
Nightmare Airport . Queues are the norm even for night flights . High season main beaches get very crowded . Limited cuisine . Not for those seeking 4 /5 Star Hotel standards

If you want all night clubbing ,English beer, fish & chips, then my advice is stick to Blackpool. ,otherwise the nearest you will get is Kardamena, Personally, Kardamena is somewhere I prefer to drive through. Those of you who want silver sand, Blue silk ocean views, unspoilt scenery then read on. I now Kos , I have an apartment there, (yes are'nt I lucky). For nature lovers. The salt lake between Tigaki and Marmari is a must for early season bird watchers.(May/June) Expect flamingos, herons, bee eaters ,cranes, kingfishers and many more. This coast has a good breeze, that makes sunbathing comfortable, but dont be deceived it is so easy to get badly burnt here. Dont spare the sun lotion. Also excellent swimming here. Be aware. this beach with its backdrop of sandunes is mostly used by nudists, but its not compulsory. Plaka Forrest is another unadvertised beauty spot. Take the road around the airportperimeter , heading towards Kefalos, until you come to a small chapel on your right, turn off here and follow the road down through the pine forrest A small bridge crosses a stream which dries up almost completely in mid summer. here you will find communal bbq pits and pine table benches. Do as the Greeks do bring a bbq. You will have plenty of company with the wild peacocks ,later in the season they will bring their young to you as they get hungrier when the flow of tourists ceases.(Take plenty of old bread or they will steal your food) Also find tortoises, fresh water terrapins, green tree frogs, small snakes, and we once saw a buzzard eating small prey. East of the capital follow the coast road as far as it goes. When the road ends follow the track by a cantina down to the sea. There you will find a natural hot spring that flows directly into the sea, It is recomended to bathe here to ease all sorts of aches and pains . Here you can boil like a lobster. Pity the smell is'nt too pleasant. There are lots of indications of the volcanic nature of this and its surrounding Islands, if you are interested. Another of my favourite picnic spots is to be found beyond the village of Pyli, Paleo Pyli is the remains of the ancient fortified town on the mountain top.The views here are spectacular, reaching out to the surrounding Islands and Turkey Itself. Enough of the original buildings and chapels remain to make exploration worthwhile. Until 2004 you could access the very peak, but a steele gate has been errected denying this last climb, due to danger of land slide I think. .Tortoises and goats wander in and out of the old buildings. A small taverna opened here in 2004 with a unique outside toilet. Nearby is the much advertised village of Zia, here the tiny village is swamped by commercialism ,selling every naff trinket you could wish for. The Island itself is small ,but even in high season there can still be found many quite unspoilt corners of heaven.
I am so jealous I love Kos, the best holiday(s) I've ever had.

Been to the Greek Isles 4 times (3 times to Zakynthos/ 1 to Kos), we love the greek isles. Kos is a beautiful island too. We stayed at the Iberostar Hippocrates Palace, an amazing 4* hotel in the Iberostar Complex would recommend! (Dont ask me about Iberostar Kos Bay View - we visited that hotel - it is of the utmost luxury.
Anyway, good review very interesting. Could do with some structure to make it easier to read!
