I must say I have read this review on Kefalas and thought that I had been to a different place altogether this year.

Robert and I traveled to Kos September 07 and only came back Oct 07.

As we stayed in Kefalos at the Pantheon just along from the big Club Med, (well up the hill from there).

We had wonderful views over the whole of the bay and out over to Nysros and 4 other islands. The sea was so blue for the whole of the 2 weeks and the sky was even bluer. The sun shone from morning till night and as we were lucky enough to have the full moon in the evening it was magical.

Whilst there we visited the old town of Kefalos with it's ruins and old windmill. To walk from the harbor up takes about 25 minuets but there are steps 100 plus in two sections. The first are straight up and the second are on a double steep bend just at the top. Once you have managed them just across the road is a little taverna the sells fresh squeezed lemon juice and orange juice. I managed the orange but Robert had the lemon. Very, very refreshing........

We walked around the town and up and down the steep back streets and when we came across the church we were invited to stay for the christening of the day, a little girl who was of both greek and english parents. The church was decorated out with pink toys, a giant unicorn soft toy and others that a little girl would love to play with. the children of the family (guests) all came with toys and monies for the candles and the plate. It was magical to say the least. You often get invited to a greek wedding but we had never been privileged to attend a christening. It was a wonderful experience, even though some of it was hard to follow, words etc but the meanings are the same in any country.

We then found a taverna to have our Sunday lunch. We went past the castle taverna and found a blue chair taverna, that we could not see the name of. We ordered a mezze for two, and mama went off into the kitchen to chop and cook. We had Courgette fritters, to die for, Dolmades, warm, Saganki, and olives. We sat in the sunshine and watched as the greek families came in for their lunch and watched the world go by. I couldn't think of a better way to spend a Sunday.

As we left to walk down the hill and steps, back to the strip that is new Kefalos we found the bank machine just on the corner and it worked very well.

The harbour of Kefalos is very small and quiet.

Most days the boats come from Kardamena to unload 20/30 people for hour or so. The main thing they say is "isn't this quiet."

We found the best toilets we have ever come across in Greek travel in 16 years in the Sebastian Taverna. We would go there for brunch when near the harbour and as I say the toilets are impeccable. There are 3 toilets, gents, ladies and children's. each with two rooms to use. The children's even has small toilets for the children. The adjoining wash room is marble with air freshener on a timer, flowers and as clean as clean could be.

Another great place to eat was the Stop Inn, not a very greek name but the food was something else.

We ate there 7 nights out of 14. We would recommend the pumpkin croquettes to all and everyone that eats there. Hospitality was second to none, with the mama greeting everyone on first sight as and old long lost friend, and as they left again goodbye was the parting of an old friend Her two sons worked as waiters and our first week the oldest went off to Paisley to university then the 2nd week George went off to study in Athens. Undeterred Yaya (Greek for grandma) was called upon to help out, which she did but all you saw was her head above the bar and her hands when they went to fetch a bottle off the shelf. I cannot recommend this place enough.
