KOS MUSEUM,

This is a superb little archaeological museum which was built by the Italians in the 1930s to display Greek and Roman sculptures, potteries and mosaics from the island. It provides a reminder of what an important strategic and cultural centre Kos was for ancient Greece and Rome. The museum's atrium includes a mural/mosaic showing the history of how Hippocrates welcomed Asklepius, the god of healing, to the island, also ceramics, statues and other findings are exposed as well as a statue that is believed to represent Hippocrates, the father of scientific medicine.
Close to the Museum is the Roman Odeon, which a lot of it is still intact, and Hippocrates tree, believed to be planted by the great man himself, it is known as the learning tree, as it is said ,Hippocrates, would sit and teach students, his philosophy on medicine.
I thought the kids, may not like this trip, but how wrong, they were fascinated, by the history, and found it mind blowing, to learn of early civilizations and how medicine was perceived at the time.
Even if you leave your hotel grounds on just one occasion during your holiday, mix a visit of Kos Museum, with the Gardens of Hippocrates and finish of with the 15 century Knights Castle, all of which are in close proximity to each other, you'll have an holiday worth remembering.
It is worth noting, when leaving the Museum, take a short stroll to the Gardens, the side street here is lined with small in expensive restaurants, a great place to eat and drink, whilst listening to the 1000's of birds in the Gardens and enjoyed the warmth of the Greek sun.
Opening hours: Daily exc. Mon 08.00-15.00 Closed on Monday, Fee in Euro 3.00. They didn't charge for the kids, but I don't know, if this was supposed to be, or they were just being friendly,
Advantages: Sunshine, Temperatures, Lots to Do! Disadvantages: Quite Lively, Airport
everywhere you go - there really is something to suit everyone?s tastes!
** Industry on Kos **
The majority of industry is admittedly catered around the tourism field, with hotels, bars and entertainment making up at least 70% of their annual income. Other tourism includes building work as well as car garages (for such a small population we were shocked by how many car garages we saw selling brand new cars!).
** Culture/Sight Seeing on Kos **
There?s plenty of culture to be gained from the island of Kos ? from the fabulous Greek food and way of life to the more subdued ruins of the Romans amphitheatre and baths lying towards Kos town. Also in Kos Town is the 15th century Castle of the Knights, an 18th century Turkish Mosque as well as an Archaeological Museum. Further southward in Kefalos there's a Hellenistic temple and also a theatre ...

headlights at night. Hoever, my partner is an experienced rider and I'm used to going pillion so we felt ok to hire one. It wascheer than hiring a car and took less petrol. We used it to visit Kardamena for shopping and a look at the ba, we spent a good while sitting in bars sipping long drinks and watching F1, Only Fools and Horses and Friendson large screen TVs - it was a lot more English than Kefalos and a good break, but I'm glad we weren't the all the time as there wasn't as much in the way of Greek culture there. We also went to Kos Town to see the castle, museum and archaeology...if you like history or if you have kids it's really very inetersting. Kos To as not particularly easy to find on out mini map of Kos however, probably best asking your car hire compan for a decent map! We also rode over the treacherous mountain roads from Kefalos ...
