my 4 year stay in kowloon

Advantages: Great place
Disadvantages: not a lot

...the raf we lived in Kowloon tong and went to st Georges secondary school which was for forces children but also locals and other nationalities did attend I remember in a class of 30 there would be a mixture of Chinese English Japanese's Korean and Indian children all of us were great mates and got along well
In Hong Kong I learnt how eat with chop sticks and some of the native spoken caterniese which sorry to say I can say but not spell lol
...home videos about our stay we called them the sights and not the smells of Hong Kong this would be because it was not a very nice smelling place but I do remember that clothing was cheep and there where tones of places to visit and eat
I remember one place we used to go to a lot for fish meals LAN Tow Island a nice small island with mainly fish retrants but the food was so fresh and lovely to eat

First-time in Kowloon

Advantages: Sheer Vitality
Disadvantages: Crowded

...stayed for 6 days in Kowloon after 4 days in Hong Kong Island. What a contrast! HKI is where the money is and Kowloon is the powerhouse that supplies all the workers that keep HK Islanders prosperous. Kowloon is the place to shop if your budget is anything less than millionaire. There are numerous shopping malls including the Yue Hwa chain of Chinese retail stores that stock genuine Chinese goods at bargain prices. I bought small original Chinese ...
...that is happening in Kowloon. Kowloon is all about shopping. I have never seen so many shops per square mile anywhere. High fashion, jewellery, made-to-measure clothes, etc, etc. I bought a business suit and trousers and shirts. They fit superbly. You get measured, come back in 2 days time and then your order is ready in another 48 hours. You can pay HK$2,000-5,000 for a suit and the higher price does not necessarily guarantee a better product. ...

...eaters paradise. My visit to Kowloon included a ferry trip on the Star Ferry which crosses the harbor. Just like on TV the amazing sight of the surrounding skyscrapers and the traditional boats sailing by. Kowloon is the heart of Hong Kong and to see what Hong Kong has to offer its mainly compacted into the small valuable space. Ideal for all the family with children as fun is guaranteed ...

Check Out That Junk

Advantages: Comfortable, great service, attention to detail
Disadvantages: None really

including lebkuchen, stollen and milk, white or dark chocolate truffles - and oh boy those truffles are divine! Hong Kong is indeed a blend of old and new, tradition and progress, and here at the Shangri La there is no better way to sample it! Booking I was able to get a special rate at the hotel but, if booked direct with the Shangri La, you'll pay around US$320 for a room. Hotels.com offered rates around US$340; Expedia offered US$225 for a basic room, or US$335 for a harbor view, as we had. In general, it looks like the best rates were by booking direct, on the website. The website (http://www.shangri-la.com/hongkong/kowloon/en/) conveniently gives local weather information, a first that I have not seen before. I also noticed that the website didn't offer a photo tour or an album, but offered: "Map", "Fact Sheet" and "Safety ...

Review of Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong

Star Ferry Hong kong - Kowloon

Advantages: quick and easy transport
Disadvantages: none

I loved the star ferry although according to people the journey gets shorter and shorter every year due to reclaimed land. The journey itself costs approx 25pence and takes you from Kowloon over to Hong Kong island in approx 5-10 mins and vice versa. You get an excellant view of all the main sights of Hong Kong and Kowloon and experience a trip on the water soaking up the atmosphere which i find electrical day and night. The best time to travel is during the sound and light show which takes place in the evening at 8pm as you get a spectactular laser show with all the main buildings along the harbour taking part. There are several ferries aday up until approx 10pm at night. ...

My view on Kowloon, Hong Kong

Advantages: all you want in one place
Disadvantages: the humid hot weather in crowded streets

Well where will I start? I have travelled to quite a few places around the world, but my love for Kowloon, Hong Kong will always be the same!! By day, it's busy with business workers, shoppers, culture and by night, it all calms down with friends, family and couples taking a strole along the Tsimshatsui Harbour soaking in the night view of Hong Kong. As a tourist, if you have a thick wallet, then Kowloon has many high class hotels to choose from. Hotels which will be situated at the heart of Kowloon some of which will have breath-taking views as you look out the window. However, those of you with a thinner wallet like myself, well don't fret, as I have stayed at the Metropole Hotel, and I managed to get a packaged holiday - this tends to let you experience the joy of living in a top class hotel without breaking your bank balance ...
