Having been through KLIA several times this year, here's my report, but from a business user. Most people will use KLIA as a hub for travel into south east asia, along with Singapore.

Carriers: There are several companies that fly to KLIA from Europe, mainly KLM, Malaysian, Virgin (code share with Malaysian), Luthansia. For the flight, I paid around £1500 business class, which, when you consider it's a 13 hour flight, is certainly worth it! Anyway, most carriers tend to leave Europe which gets you in there mid afternoon, and returning, most leave around midnight, getting you into europe early morning(around 7am ish).

Transport: Until recently, there where two options: A very efficient taxi service, and the bus. The taxi service desk is after arrivals (you cannot miss it!) and is effiecient. You pay around 80 ringgit into KL centre, which is around £15, and the clean, air conditioned taxis take around 35 minutes on a good day). The airport is also serviced by buses which take you into KL, but I've nio idea about prices. I think it's about 15 ringgit, which is around £2.80.

However, there is now the KLIA express, which takes you from the main Train station in KL to the airport is around 28 minutes. It's frequent, fast, and clean. However, if there are more than two of you, get a cab, as it is cheaper. A return costs around 35 Ringgits, or £6.50. However, on a busy day, you can avoid the traffic! You can also checkin your backage at the train station too for selected airlines.

KLIA is a good airport, marred only by a few incompetent statff, and it't location. It is, however, next to Sepang F1 track!

Arrivals: The first thing you'll notice when you get off the plane is how huge the airport is. If coming from Europe, you'll land at terminal B (I think). It's massive, airy and well air conditioned. It's a bit of a walk to the train back to the main terminal, a trip that takes around a minute, and they are frequent and clean. You'll also walk through 'Tropikal', which is KLIA's shopping experience. There are many designer names there, which prices to Match! I found that you couldn't barter here, like you could in KL... Anyway, once inside thre main terminal, immigration is fast, and then on, it's a very short wait for your bags (literally, less than 5 minutes), and off you are through customs and into arrivals.

Departures: Upon arriving at the airport, you'll be gerated by a massive departure hall. There is an information desk which may help. However, if you get there early, KLIA is not a busy airport, so don't expect to find staff for your air;line until around 3 hours before the flight. I also found the staff to be ill informed as well, as I was sent on a duck hunt to find my KLM checkin desk... You'll get used to misinformation whilst in malaysia! Anyway, get there early, as many malaysians travel in big groups, which is a nightmare as you can imagine. There are a few shops and things there before customs, but eat before you get to the aiport, as there are only a couple of places to eat, and they are only mediocre! Again, customs is pretty swift, and you only go through the metal detectoprs and searches when entering your gate, which I think is a much better idea.

Lounges: As a business class passenger, I have used the 'generic' lounge, and also malaysian's Golden class lounge. If you can, make sure you have access to the Golden class one, being so much better than the generic one! There was an extensive array of food, and drinks, free internet access, showers, which where clean, and the area was airey and clean in general. The generic lounge was okay, but not something worthy of a business class passenger.

A good op, it's been a couple of years since I flew into or out of KLIA but I do remember having to walk an awful long way!
