Want to Live in Malaysia?

Advantages: Modern facilities, conveniently located, friendly people, lots to do
Disadvantages: None

...there was to be an Expat Expo in the nearby Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) on 29 and 30 September 2007. Well, we were in KL on holiday, had no business materials with us, and no smart clothes. But we decided to go and have a look anyway, as we're always interested in expat-related things. It was well worth while. This was the first Expat Expo organised by "The Expat", but the general consensus among the attendees seemed to be that they hoped ...
...a director of the Allo' Expat website. (I was embarrassed to be so unprepared for the Expo, not even having business cards with me, and probably appeared monosyllabic to her as, once I'd admitted that I was from britishexpat.com rather than trying to pose as a casual visitor, I just wanted to escape. Oh dear.) Never mind, there's always next year. So why would anyone want to visit such an event? Well, the Malaysian government has been actively promoting ...

Flying Free In Kuala Lumpur

Advantages: Natural surroundings, lots of species, excellent value for money
Disadvantages: None

I visited Borneo and Kuala Lumpur last year and being a massive fan of animals, myself and my boyfriend visited all the animal related attractions. One of these was the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park. Where Is It? Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is situated in the Lake Gardens area of Kuala Lumpur which is close to the Orchid Gardens and the Tun Abdul Razek Memorial. The bird park is a little bit out of the main town in Kuala Lumpur as we did try to follow a map ...
...of Malaysia, Tunku Bainun. The Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is the largest walk in aviary in the world. The bird park is set across 8 acres of land and is certainly very picturesque. Over 9000 species of birds currently live in the bird park and you can see them in natural surroundings as they are all free to fly where they want due to the fact that the bird park is built in the style of a massive aviary so basically the whole area of the bird park is ...

The closest thing to paradise

Advantages: Fantastic flower, peace and quiet, other attractions nearby
Disadvantages: Can be tricky for transport, a bit disorganised

...regaining your sanity is the Orchid Garden in KL Lake Gardens. KL Lake Gardens (or Taman Tasik Perdana) lie up a hill looking out over the city. There may well be a bus service up there but the two times I've been I have taken taxis. And even that can be a problem - getting up there is relatively easy but getting back can be a struggle. The gardens aren't on the standard KL taxi driver's prowling route so you can struggle to find a cab when you ...
...it's not. The KL orchid gardens have more than 2000 different species of orchid - including more than 800 that are native to Malaysia. Getting in ************ Once your taxi driver works out where to drop you - not always the right place but don't worry it'll be in the right area more or less - you stroll up a sloping driveway to the gardens. It could be a bit of a tough push for someone in a wheelchair or with restricted mobility. There's a little ...

One-stop place for souvenirs in Kuala Lumpur

Advantages: Not to be missed
Disadvantages: Beware of pickpockets

The Central Market (Pasar Seni in the local language) was a wet market in central Kuala Lumpur about 50 years ago. Now, it has a proper building and is turned into a cultural tourist attraction site. There are many cultural performances here and there are also activities such as batik painting. (Batik is a traditional Malay cloth from the northern states of Malaysia). Painting batik is a traditional art. It is a very interesting place especially ...
...in advance. The Central Market is very near Chinatown (about 10 minutes away), so you should go to these two places on the same day. How to get there: 1. Take STAR LRT to Pasar Rakyat and it is about 10 minutes' walk from the station to Central Market. You need to ask pedestrains for directions as it is too complicated to tell you here. Or 2. Take PUTRA LRT to Pasar Seni and then when you exit the station, cross the road. Central Market is right ...
