Not an authentic Asian hotel, that's for sure - Ritz Carlton KL Advantages: Full service 5 star hotel. Good price point. Excellent service and luxury. Butler service. For those who are unfamiliar, the Ritz Carlton chain is part of the Marriott group and provides seventy upscale luxury properties over the world. The chain is arguably one of the west’s finest hotel chains with it’s closest rival in Canada’s Four Seasons chain. 5 Star Luxury starting at £20 a night! - Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Advantages: Cheapest 5 star property in KL. Excellent western property. Great facilities and staff. Disadvantages: Not as fresh as other 5* properties but at this price, who cares??! ...I decided to give the Renaissance a go and here is my story. Booking Before I booked I spoke to the hotel reservations team directly to discuss the differences in the room and check for any special promotions. Kuala Lumpur has an significant amount of over supply of hotel rooms so a lot of last minute hotel deals are available direct with the property. As it was when I booked the hotel occupancy was quite high so no deals. Later that day I went ... ...One is classed as the Renaissance wing, the other the New World wing. I had booked a room in the New World wing and approached their reception desk. In true five star style there was a huge chandelier over a large imposing reception desk. This was going to be impressive. As soon as I got talking to the receptionist she could see I was staying on the club floor and she took me straight to the elevator to check in on the club floor. A European gem in an Asian powerhouse city. Le Meridien KL Advantages: Great value for money. Luxury property with European style. Something different for KL Disadvantages: Not as contemporary as Hilton but all down to personal preference. ...the pleasure of staying at Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur once for a good three day trip back when I lived in Malaysia. The stay gave me the opportunity to experience this European styled hotel in an Asian city and today I will give you my insight into my long weekend break! Booking The stay was booked over the telephone direct with the hotel’s reservation agent. I had received a promotional voucher from the hotel when I took lunch with friends a few ... ...would take advantage of the Le Meriden’s deal and decided to stay with them. I chose their executive suite but was only going to be charged for a normal executive room at around £80 per night. The suite should have cost around £250 per night but due to the voucher I was entitled to the free upgrade. Not bad I thought! Take me to the Hilt. Take me to Hilton Kuala Lumpur! Advantages: Modern, Clean, Luxurious. Great price! Disadvantages: Having to say goodbye. Too much choice for food! ...to this would be price. Hilton managed to entice me to stay at their flagship Asian property In February and March this year due to a 70% discount promotion. Given the nature of the recession I thought it was best to slim my expenditure down to size and took a Grand Executive Suite at £110 a night. The usual price for this would be in excess of £250 a night and when you see the room, you can clearly understand why. Hilton KL opened in 2004 and established ... ...booked my stay at the Hilton via Hilton.com. The rate I booked on required an advance purchase and for the Feb stay I had to pay up in November. Not bad and at least I had taken the financial hit before my holiday. Rather than have to experience the painful credit card bill on my return. Bringing me moments of delight since 2005. Mandarin Oriental KL Advantages: Luxury hotel. Brilliant food. Excellent service. Great location. Value for Money! Disadvantages: Going home. If I could move in I would! ...my love affair with the Mandarin Oriental chain started and it all began in Kuala Lumpur. I have visited this property many times and shall write today based on my visit of February 2008, having not been back to the MO since I last left KL in June 2006.
