The Chalet Suisse restaurant at C11-Jalan Ampang Utama1/1 specialises in traditional Swiss cuisine and has already made its mark on the gastronomic scence in Kuala Lumpur,winning several awards. The place is open for lunch from 11 am to 3 pm (Monday to Friday) and open for dinner from 6 pm to 11.30 pm (Monday to Sunday). The restaurant is very warm and homely with the decor of a Swiss chalet being paramount. There are pinewood walls and a host of antiques including the famous Swiss cuckoo clock. The service is attentive,efficient and the waiters clearly have been well trained. Although they are Malaysians they are all dressed up in Swiss costumes. What about the food? The menu is not very extensive. Among starters are seafood dishes such as crab and prawn chowder,onion soup, salads and air-dried beef. There are a number of fondue dishes,beef in red wine, lamb shank braised and most dishes are accompanied by roesti. Desserts include apple pie and cream, meringue with chestnut puree, and there is both a good selection of wines and coffees. The Chalet Suisse is,in my opinion,pricey and I have eaten better Swiss food. Whilst it is not bad,I would not rate it as outstanding.
