Kuala Lumpur (affectionately known as KL) is a shoppers paradise! The amount of shopping malls and street stalls hit you in the face as soon as you hit the streets. Goods are cheap and the variety is huge.
The weather stays quite stable throughout the year, which means humidity levels are high and rainfall is heavy when it rains. There is lots to do in Kuala Lumpur and it's surrounding areas. The worlds tallest twin towers, Petrona's Twin Towers, dominate the KL skyline and is visible from almost anywhere in the city. One of the worlds tallest communications towers is also quite close to Petronas and offers breathtaking views of KL from its viewing gallery, more than 400 metres up!
Sites such as Batu Caves (a complex and intricate natural caving system) and the Selangor area (known for its beautiful natural hillsides) are driving distance from the city.
The people of KL are great and are very cultural, sticking to a lot of their traditions from centuries ago. However, due to high concentration of tourists, crime is quite high, most notably pick pocketing. Also on the downside, the city is very crowded and noisy, and you can expect to be stuck in traffic for a lot of the time due to congestion on the streets.
Overall, an alternative and different city to visit with lots to do and lots to see!
