My family and I have visited Kusadasi several times now, and overall I would rate it highly. We tend to rent out villas, of which there are thousands. There are plenty of excellent hotels on offer also. Kusadasi is a popular destination, for Turkish holidaymakers, this is obviously a good sign.
Eating Out : Kusadasi has literally thousands of places to go out to eat. They range from high class restaurants, to dodgy roadside cafes. We found that along the seafront there are many excellent choices of places to eat. Near the harbour the restaurants tend to be exspensive, a la carte type eateries. They are catering for the rich folk arriving on cruise ships. In the bazaar area there are also many tourist style cafes, offering entertainment etc. Eating out is extremely good value in Kusadasi, a good feed wont set you back anymore than £10 €12 a person, this would include a starter and desert. The service is generally brilliant, the Turks really value your custom. A place I would call our favorite
is called the Degirmen restaurant, this is outside Kusadasi on the road to Davutler. It is in my opinion a fabulous place to experience Turkish cuisine at its best, it is set in a gorgeous area, not to be missed.
Nightlife: Kusadasi is a vibrant, busy city. It has plenty to do at night. You can have almost any type of evening you want. If you want clubs, and all night bars head to Bar Street. However expect to meet lots of drunk revellers. Down this stretch there are plenty of pub/clubs to go to. Bar Street is quite cleverly tucked away from the main throng of night activity, which generally involves restaurants. It would be quite acceptable to be here with your children at night, as its very relaxed and laid back.
Bazaars: If you like to haggle, Kusadasi is the right place for you. There is street after street filled with merchandise ranging from bag, leather stuff, designer wear, sweets, carpets, sunglasses, jeans etc etc. My wife was in heaven, she literally spent four days haggling for designer bags (fake). But they look good. The shopkeepers are not allowed to drag you into there shops, but they can call you over. And this they do, if you walk the bazaars, you will talk to about a hundred shopkeepers. It gets tedious in the end. Although all in all a great experience. Down in the bazaars some excellent bars and clubs can be found.
Beaches: Love beach, Ladies beach, Silver sands beach, Davutler beach. Paradise beach, Star beach, Long beach, Golden beach to name a few. All the beaches are beautiful with white sand. You cant go wrong.
Things to do: There are at least three waterparks, of which one is possibly biggest in Europe. Ephesus, is 30 miles away, this is an amazing ruined city which is a must. Near here is also the virgin Marys house. There are mud baths, Turkish massages. Pigeon Island is very near to Kusadasi and a nice place to visit . There is a national park just past Davutler worth a visit too.
Grocery Shopping: The best advice I can give is to visit the Kipa supermarket, which incidentally is Tescos. It is a huge hypermarket, there is also a cinema and burger king here. There are many other places to grocery shop, we found the prices to be comparable to UK supermarkets, so quite reasonable.
How to get there: You would arrive by air, either to Izmir or Bodrum airports. Expect to pay a small charge for entry into Turkey. Izmir to Kusadasi is about 1.5 hours, Bodrum to Kusadasi is 2 hours.
Transport: Car hire is available at both airports. It is also available in Kusadasi, if you want to sight see I would recommend you hire a car, as excursions can be pricey. If you on a beach bar holiday just use the bus (Dolmus). They are cheap, and always running, great service.
Weather: SCORCHING HOT, forget Spain, Portugal, Italy and France. Turkey has the best weather in Europe bar none.
Kusadasi is a great place for all the family. It caters for young and old, lively and retiring. The weather is fantastic., possibly too hot. Kusadasi is a modern city with modern facilities. It has a great range of activities. It really should be top of any list of places to go to in Europe.
