The Sari Club is by far the most popular nightspot in Kuta - if you don't mind having a laugh, it's an absolute must. You simply must have a "Jungle Juice" - which is a litre of local vodka and fruit juice that costs less than two quid! Yes, I said LITRE!!!!!!! You drink it straight from the bottle, and it's absolutely lethal, and not a little tasty!!! The music is loud, and the crowd are crazy!!! It's a bit of a cattle mart as well, so ideal for single folk to head along!!!! ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap, quiet, fun

Disadvantages Disadvantages Weather can be dodgy

I just got home from a couple of days in Kuta - a reasonably good trip despite the lousy weather. I arrived at Denpassar Airport - which despite the name is just south of of the Kuta Legian region. I was met at the airport by a bemo driver who normally drives for my parents when they are in Bali. From the moment we met he treated me with respect and concern - he told me about many of the scams to avoid while in town and where some of the better places to eat and shop were located. I stayed at an older and somewhat less popular accommodation called Kuta Bungalows on the corner of Jl Benesari ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, sunny and plenty to do

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be loud with the nightlife

Kuta is the most popular tourist destination in Bali. The beaches here are absolutely beautiful.... as long as you don't look too close (there is a lot of rubbish). When I first arrived there I had no idea where I was going to stay which was kind of scary but a couple of us hunted around for cheap accommodation and eventually found a place called Uncle Sams on poppies lane. The budget accommodation in Kuta is cheap and basic but as I didn't intend in staying there very long it was fine. It cost about £2 a night and that included a fresh fruit salad breakfast and a cup of Bali tea or coffee ... more

Advantages Advantages Nightlife, good place to learn how to surf

Disadvantages Disadvantages Full of drunken tourists, no real budget accommodation, zero culture....

Kuta Bali is known for it's nightlife more than anything these days and this is why it's often refered to by backpackers as the Ibiza of Indonesia. Not even the Bali bombings (Muslim extremists bombed two bars in Kuta killing scores of people) several years ago managed to seriously impact Bali's tourist business. Kuta is dominated by Australians who tend to view it the same way Brits view Ibiza and the Canary Islands; A place to get drunk and party for much less than they would at home, with great beaches and reliably hot and sunny weather. Other than the nightclubs, bars, resturants, shops ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap, good bars

    Disadvantages Disadvantages noisy, unBalinese

    - according to me, fantastic fun according to others. Basically, it depends on what you're looking for. If you're into drinking, surfing, beaches and nightclubs, you'll love it - just don't expect to find anything remotely Indonesian, let alone Balinese there. It's a cheap beach holiday, nothing more. The best way to get the most out of the place is to drink an awful lot - and be very, very careful about buying things. Hustlers are likely to be your biggest problem, especially on the beach - Indonesia's economy has been badly damaged in recent years and tourists are seen as a source of easy ... more
