When I first moved to Strasbourg I had no accommodation and had to live in a hotel for a little while. Fortunately someone had recommended the Etap hotel and it was a great place.
The hotel is located opposite the station, across the grassy area and gave me a great view from my window. There was a little traffic noise but not enough to disturb you. There's a Mc Donald's nearby as well as another restaurant (I forget the name) which offers a discount to those staying in the hotel. Being opposite the station, it's well located for getting the train or tram somewhere, or alternatively you can just walk.
The room was about ?46 a night and when my friend also arrived, it was only a few quid more to add her into my room. Most of the rooms consist of a double bed with a single bunk on top, but because I was there for quite a long stay ...
Advantages: Clean, good shuttle bus service Disadvantages: Not much to do, just a pit stop for Disney Land
I stayed at this hotel in October 2007 and had a pleasant stay. The welcome area is clean and friendly, with a small bar and a shop near the check in desk. There's also a small toddlers indoor play area in this area. This is probably the nicest part of the complex, although it is pretty small. The corridors are quite dark and dull, but the rooms are decent and have traditional decor. I remember the beds being quite comfortable, which was nice after staying in an extremely uncomfortable Holiday Inn bed the night before. The outside is decorated nicely, with plants and flowers and is kept very tidy. However, the eating area was a disappointment and was basically a cafeteria. The food was quite nice and you could keep going up for more, but there was no atmosphere and it felt like everyone had been shoved in there not because they wanted to ...
Advantages: Beautiful Gothic cathedral set in a delightful setting. Disadvantages: Gets crowded when the clock is performing. Pickpockets.
Strasbourg Cathedral.
Where is Strasbourg?
Strasbourg is in the North East region of France in Alsace which is on the border with Germany. It has a chequered history in that it has been at different times throughout history either in Germany or in France. It is currently of course in France. The region has its own dialect of French known as Alsacien with a combination of French and German words.
Getting to Strasbourg can be an absolute nightmare from the UK involving changes of planes either at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris or Frankfurt am Mein in Germany. Ryan air fly to Baden Baden- Karlsruhe not too far away in Germany after Air France objected to them flying into Strasbourg. Air France no longer offers direct flights from the UK.
By Road: Strasbourg is at the end of the very useful motorway system in ...
