Myriad at the Kyriad

Advantages: Clean, basic accomodation
Disadvantages: In the middle of traffic hell

was painless, I'd booked online and just waved my confirmation at the polite chap at the desk. He gave me a key for my trouble and a map of Toulouse. He even helpfully circled the city centre for us, and it was telling that the hotel was quite some distance away - don't let the 'Kyriad Toulouse Centre' name fool you, it's easily within walking distance but certainly not central. We took the lift to our room, and we were... satisfied. Big comfy bed, television with basic satellite channels (including BBC World and the German and Spanish equivalents), clean and fully stocked en suite bathroom, and tea and coffee making facilities. We looked around and said, yup, pretty good. OK, the cups for the tea and coffee were flimsy plastic that you wouldn't trust to hold scalding hot liquid, but we weren't in France to hide in a hotel room ...

All tanked up!

Advantages: Every tank that ever existed
Disadvantages: Needs to be better presented

and go at once. You'll feel like you've died and gone to heaven. If tanks and such are most definitely NOT your thing, however, this museum won't convert you. Why is it here? The French cavalry school has been in Saumur since 1768 and of course cavalry regiments have long since abandoned the horse in favour of horse power, so now it is essentially a tank school. After world war 2 the hulks left on the battlefields of Europe were gathered together for investigation and Col Aubry, the Commandant of the School, acquired many for the instruction of his cadets. The Armoured Vehicles Documentation Centre was formed in 1965 and the project grew from there. Housed in enormous airplane-sized hangars, it is the largest tank museum in the world. There are 850 tanks, of which 200 are on display. It is an agglomeration, a congregation ...

Carry on Camping!

Advantages: Large pitches, nice setting and great pool.
Disadvantages: Little grass on the pitches

We own a touring caravan and have taken it to France for several years for a family holiday, we have to travel during the school holidays as our children are an senior school. This has resulted in us camping at some very busy and noisy sites in the past so I always feel more than a little apprehensive when I book a new site. This trip saw us opt for Camping l?Etang de la Breche near Saumur in the Loire Valley, it is a Les Castels site and we have used some of these sites before and they have always been quite nice. We booked through Eurocamp Independent as we have found that this works out cheaper than booking the campsite and a high season ferry seperately. Full details of the tariffs can be found at : http://www.etang-breche.com although the English on the website is a little tricky to understand. I think our two week ...
