Sweet and simple, this spot lures diners with its modern, inventive attitude and friendly service. Chef Yvonnick Briand's "creative regional" cuisine extends to his own smokehouse for salmon and duck, so the foie gras is homemade -- he likes to serve it light, atop a mesclun salad. The menu is dependent on Briand's daily trips to markets, so don't hesitate to try any of the fresh fish specials, such as the sea bass steamed in rosemary or other briny delights laced with French West Indian spices. Pineapple croquant with rum-laced creole ice cream makes a fitting finale.
Advantages: so much to do, comfortable bit like a floating town! Disadvantages: SEA SICKNESS!
...cakes and had a few arcade games to keep the children happy. We stood at the gates and watched the ferry arrive apart from this the view was obscured by large buildings.
***THE FERRY***
On the way to Brittany we traveled on the Pont L’Abbe this ferry serves the Plymouth to Roscoff route. Its first journey was in March 2006. The ferry can hold 410 cars and a maximum of 1,200 passengers.
Accommodation
As we chose a night time journey we could not book without choosing a cabin or reclining seat to sleep in/on. Due to the seats being 25 pounds each we decided a cabin would be more comfortable. We chose a 4 berth cabin with two bunk beds and a toilet. The room had a small table and wardrobe.
On arrival the room had a very foul smell and we quickly left to check out the rest of the ship on our return 3 hours later the cabin was fine...

Advantages: Quality service, good start to holiday, convenient for south west Disadvantages: Don't seem to publish their prices
...We've been using Brittany ferries for years and rate them really highly. We live in Cornwall and have a house in south west France and have tried all sorts of ways of getting there - trains, planes etc but this is by far the easiest and most pleasant way to travel.
Nowadays we always book on line and it is an excellent and easy to use service - everything is done on line - you get the times, make the booking and print your own ticket. As we travel a lot we have joined the Frequent Travellers'Club and we get good discounts. The address is http://www.brittanyferries.co.uk
Going on the Brittany Ferry is a good start to the holiday. The check in is usually good and sometimes you can get on board early and enjoy a good meal in the restaurant.
There seems to be a lot to do on board most of the ferries but we just book a cabin and go...

Advantages: Stunning Cornwall-esque coastline Disadvantages: Long drive to get there
...Ah holidays. Sunshine, relaxation, good wine, good food, peace, quiet....with kids - hmmmm maybe not!
However this holiday was pretty near perfect for our little family. We were actually staying near Benodet at a campsite called L'Atlantique, Beg Meil with Keycamp. We went via the Channel Tunnel as I get sea sick and prefer the long drive to the long torture of a sea crossing. We had an overnight stop at a campsite in Picardy and then drove on down to Brittany the next day.
Southern Brittany is lovely. The coast-line is beautiful - rocky with blue, blue seas. If you and/or your kids like rock pooling then this is a great place to come. For a family that doesn't normally like lazing about on a beach all day we had a great time and managed to bag our favourite spot every time.
We were there at the end of May this year at half...
