Amistad

Advantages: Not bad
Disadvantages: Not special

1997 proved a successful year for John Williams with the release of four films with his music in them: Rosewood, centering in the aggressions of several white people against the neighbouring black people in a peaceful Florida community in 1923; the sequel to Jurassic Park, The Lost World, offering much action and jungle music; Seven Years in Tibet (being definitely the best of the bunch), having several distinctly Tibetan melodies with a sweeping main theme; and then there was Amistad, making great use of African-sounding melodies. Amistad was based on a true incident of an uprising aboard the slave ship La Amistad in 1839 and the subsequent exposure of the slaves to the American judicial system. Amistad - a true epic

Advantages: An all-round epic with a good storyline and good acting
Disadvantages: Possibly not always historically-accurate

Among those claiming ownership are the two surviving Spaniards from "La Amistad", Queen Isabella II of Spain, and two United States army officers who captured the slaves. Then, of course, there are the abolitionists, who want nothing less than the total destruction of slavery, which in 1839 was still a harsh reality in the nation ...

Review of Amistad (DVD)

La Ronde... have a thrilling time...

Advantages: Fun, exciting, spectacular fireworks, thrilling rides.
Disadvantages: None.

Expo '67 ended and the exhibition buildings were emptied, more rides were added to the site, but it wasn't until its transformation in 2002 that it became a world-class theme park. La Ronde theme park is now the most complete family entertainment activity in the Province of Quebec, possessing more than 40 rides (over 10 of these being thrill rides) and attractions designed to delight and thrill children and adults of all ages. In 1985, L'International des Feux Loto-Québec was founded (International Fireworks Competition), this being a competition open to all countries around the world. In the beginning, the competition included two types of shows: traditional fireworks and pyromusical displays. Since 1987, the displays have been exclusively pyromusical. What was meant to be a one-off competition meant to breathe life into an abandoned ...
