This restaurant is the oldest in Rome dating back to 1632 in the most ancient part of Rome-Trastevere.it was built originally underground because of its proximity to the river.Building began to bring it to ground level in 1700 and took 100 years to complete..it is full of character and the orginal restaurant is in the cellar where the well is situated and is now a museum for visitors. We dined here on Christmas Eve in 2004.When other restaurants were charging high prices we ate here(six adults and 2 children )including a complimentary bottle of champagne and the bill was just 170 Euros .The welcome we got was incredible and we were also serenaded by the owners,It is magic and well worth a visit.Admittedly my daughter-in-law is Italian so the language was not a problem but it's a must.
