La Corte Dei Folletti Bed & Breakfast

Just back from a little jaunt to Lucca, the ladies always wanted to go back to see it at Christmas time.

We had booked the flights back in July, so East Midlands to Pisa with Ryanair, included a Hold Baggage Case (in case of Xmas shopping), so also Airport Checkin prices, but total each £47 return.

Checked Hotelscomparison.Com which came up with this "WACKY" looking place. Price was £101 for a Double including ...
...Bed & Breakfast per person, where could you get that in England. Booked thru Octopustravel.com, thank goodness it was one you pay up front at booking, so did not suffer thru exchange rate falling since booking.

Emailed Hotel owner to check on a local Restaurante as we would be on an afternoon arrival so expected to get to hotel about 18:30 and did not want to trawl about. Very good restaurant recommended (See review by BOSTONIANBEER ... more

So about £16.50 a night Bed & Breakfast per person, where could you get that in England. Booked thru Octopustravel.com, thank goodness it was one you pay up front at booking, so did not suffer thru exchange rate falling since booking.

As Hotel offered Transfer from Airport for 60 Euros, worked out if the four of us did it by Bus/Train/Taxi it would only save us about 15 euros for the 4 of us so booked it.

Nice Gentleman at PISA Airport holding up ourt name at Arrivals, Nice Modern People Carrier so 30 mins after coming out of Airport we were knocking on Hotel Door.

You enter into the downstairs room, reception Desk on the Right, small Bar on left, about 6 little breakfast tables and a large table which would carry breakfast items. Double door into Garden.

You are met by a smiling MAURIZIO, a most Charming and as it turned out friendly host.
You need to see the pictures or visit his Web site www.cortedeifolletti.it to understand what I mean by WACKY.

All the pictures murals and decorations have been done by Maurizio's wife.
I suppose we would call them Picsies, Elves etc. They have exposed many areas of the brickwork. so what at first seems to be the plasters fallen off is in fact planned and used to great effect.
All floors are either Brick or Tiles. Ceilings Beamed and very large beams.
Large amounts of iron work, Iron Four Poster. With drapes.

The Rooms we had are large and very warm, Maurizio does not stint on the heating, but shows you the controls if you want to turn it down.

Breakfast is overseen by Maurizio, he makes the Coffee (Very good) fresh as you require it. Tea also. You have Corn Flakes or a very good Muslei. Cheese, Salami, Fresh Bread baked by his wife. Jams Butter. Yoghurts, sweet breads. All under the gaze of ZIGY ZAKY ZOKY the three Muscians Spirits. A good breakfast not always the case in Italian budget places.

The Hotel is outside the walls of the old town. A slow walking distance of about 15-20 mins.
There is a bus stop outside and opposite where from Morning until about 20:00 you can get the bus into town for a 90 cents, tickets bought at Bar Opposite.
Taxi from town back late at night for the 4 of us 12 Euros.

I must point out that if walking into town, foot paths are not as good as could be sometimes disappearing for short streches, but hopefully they are working on them.

My Brothers room as well as a shower/toilet room had a large Bath next to the bed, but was just for decrotive use.

The Beds were large and comfatable. Bedding very clean. Very good Towels in the large Shower/Toilt room. Good Hot powerful Shower, sink, Toilet and Bidet.

The Hotel only has 7 rooms, so is a little Home From Home.

The weather was against us on this trip with lots of rain, so unable to make use of the garden.
Which would have been very nice to have sat and had some wine after the dyas shopping.
There is a very Modern Supermarket 2 mins walk away, wine started at 2 Euros a bottle, fresh fruit etc. A little bakery opposite.

So I would certainly recommend this place for a visit, especially if you belive in Elves and Piscies. in fact things on my side table would be moved during the night, I am sure they did. (He He He!)

If you want to do your own transfer.
Local Bus from Pisa airport to out side Railway Station about 1 Euro.
Train from Pisa to Lucca about 20 mins and about 6 Euros.
Outside Lucca Railway Station, go to right corner of small square Bus Stop number 460 (I think) Bus to PESCIA about 10 past and 40 mins past the Hour) 1 Euro.
When it goes under the underpass you want the second stop, hotel about 50 yards back the way the bus came.
