The last time I was in Paris I happened to be staying in a hotel near La Defense. I was travelling for business, not pleasure, and therefore had not looked at a guide book about it before I arrived. When I stepped out of the La Defense metro station I had not been expecting anything and was so impressed with what I did see. A skyful of what are to me beautiful, modern, oddly-shaped skyscrapers. I thought it was a wonderful site, amazingly modern looking in a city where so much stature is placed in what is old and historic. I am delighted that I came across this place. The museum, or exhibition area, at the top of the Grande Arch is very impressive. It's also nice to get an aerial shot of Paris that ISN'T from the top of the Eiffel Tower!
The following info supplied as a comment from john.sw is worth pasting in here: What about Les Quatre-Temps – the huge shopping centre or the CNIT (Centre National des Industries et des Techniques), the oldest building in la Défence? In 1958, when the CNIT was built the architecture was considered revolutionary – it only stands on three legs, a bit like my dog! Finally, la Grande Arche is an amazing structure, designed by the Danish architect Otto von Spreckelsen. It is a huge hollow cube made of Carrara marble, slightly out of alignment with the Voie Triumphale – It is so huge that la cathédrale de Notre Dame would fit in it – including the spire! Funnily enough, although we think of la Défense as being modern, it was started only 86 years after Baron Haussmann had finished remodelling Paris!
Advantages: something new for people who never saw skyscrapers Disadvantages: no architectural or historical value in its traditional understanding
...standard programme, suggested to see La Defense. When we got here, after seeing the famous sites of old Paris, i was just wondering, why are we brought here. Living in the beginning of the XXJ century, it's no suprise that a lot of companies prefer to have offices in a high buildings. it's common in big cities like New York and Tokyo nowadays. Actually, no one can be surprised by that. And in this case I don't understand why is La Defense considered ... ...are created by human brain, the unique thinking of a person, his ideas and talent. cleaning service which starts about 11am so you have plenty of time to get out.
There is also an optional deposit paid service for a safe, iron and ironing board and activation of the room telephone. For phoning I recommend you take a international calling card and use the payphones right outside the hotel to make your calls back home. This will be much cheaper than using the in-room
telephone.

The greatest thing about this Hotel is the location. It is absolutly awesome. The area is called LaDefense and is where you will see some of the best looking High rise buildings in the whole of Paris. It is said to be the biggest Business District in the whole of Europe. You better take a camera.

The hotel is about 10 minute walk from the LaDefense Metro Stn or a 3 minute bus ride to the door of the hotel. I ...
Advantages: best view of Paris from the roof top, easy access, shopping center nearby Disadvantages: a little expensive to go up, not the best architectural piece in Paris
The tour Montparnass is the highest tower in Paris (and in France) and the only high rise of the city. The contrast of modernity in the middle of a city that was was kept fairly historical is quite interesting even a little strange and probably the only thing of this kind you will see in Paris, unless you go to the business center called "LaDefense" located just outside of Paris. In fact, the construction of high rises is forbidden in Paris now so it will remain the only one.
Advantages: -you can have a great view of Paris form the rooftop
- you can also enjoy fine dinning at the upscale restaurant "La tour d'argent" (meaning the silver tower) located at the top of the tower.
-Also, the tower is located in a big ...

4.) Locations of the SNCF Stations:
Poissy, Plasir, Versailles, Chantiers, Rambouillet, Dreux, LaDefense, Montpanarse.....All these places are well known city slash towns in "Ils De France" which is Paris and the area (suburbs) surrounding Paris. It sounds like great places to have the stations, and they are, only.....they are not in the OTHER towns and villages near the major towns. Example:
I lived in Les Mesnuls for a few years. This is a good size village and is about 10 miles away from Plasir and and 15 miles away from Poissy. In order to get to the train station in one of these towns, you have to take the bus in Les Mesnuls to Montfort L'Amory. Then, another bus from Montfort to St. Quintian. Then , the train from St. Quintain (which isn't an SCNF train, but more like a "into major cities" type train system), to Poissy ...
