Somehow, no matter how hard we try to plan things in advance we always do things at the last minute. Last July we decided, rather late in the day, that we’d like a ‘little holiday’ in France. This was to be our third short break in France, having previously travelled to Caen and Cherbourg, both from Portsmouth.
This time we chose St Malo, and gave ourselves a week to arrange it and get there!
Brittany Ferries offers what appears to be a great online booking service, trouble is we were too late to use it and I had to use the phone to make the booking, referring to the website to find details of hotels. The Louvre was still being added to by Napoleon III. The new wing 1852 – 1857, by architects Visconti and Hector Lefuel, represents the Second Empire’s verson of Neo-baroque, full of detail and laden with sculpture. Work continued until 1876.
The central courtyard of the museum, on the axis of the Champs-Élysées, is occupied by the Louvre Pyramid, built in 1989, which serves as the main entrance to the museum.
Recent Additions
The Louvre Pyramid is a glass pyramid commissioned by then French president François Mitterrand, designed by I. M. Pei and was inaugurated in 1989. This was the first renovation of the Grand Louvre Project. The pyramid covers the Louvre entresol and forms part of the new entrance into the museum.

Also the luxury option gets you a continental breakfast, morning coffee or afternoon tea and some even have their own private balconies. There is also a choice of inside or outside cabins.
Dining:
As mentioned earlier, there is 4 restaurants on the Pont-Aven. The main restaurant (Le Flora) is very stylish and has great ocean views. The food in here is either a buffet or an a la carte set menu. The next restaurant (La Belle Angele) is self service with a wide range of traditional menus. Le Cafe du Festival is a self service cafe which is open 24hrs.
