My Lovely Lagos

Advantages: A Great Atmospheric Town Bubbling with Life and Colour
Disadvantages: None

I don't know why it has taken me so long to get round to writing about Lagos. I guess when you live in a beautiful place you tend to take your surroundings for granted. It's six years now since I left Portugal but there isn't a day when I don't miss the colour and ambience. On days like today when Warsaw is a sea of grey I really miss the colours blue, white and yellow - sky, white-washed houses and sand. The first stop for visitors arriving in the Algarve will be Faro airport. Faro is a fine town ans has a lot to offer for a day trip but the first thing most visitors will want to do is to get in a cab or a hired car and drive to their hotel or apartment in the sun. There will be time to view Faro and its alleyways and harbour- front another day. My first memories of living in Lagos are when I lived on a boat in the fishermen ...

Lagos in the Algarve!

Advantages: sunny!! friendly, relaxed, picturesque
Disadvantages: can be a bit too hot, not much shade, constantly people trying to sell daytrips

everywhere - it could be described as a Concrete jungle of holiday apartments. The streets, however, are kept quaint and humble. Pam trees everywhere, scenic walk with beautiful paved floors. The town centre is very sceanic due to the views of the sea and the fabulous old buildings. There is a pretty castle looking type of building beside the beach in Lagos (do not go here as it is a waste of money although a pleasant view from the top of the building... otherwise hardly anything to see inside and annoying that you spent so much to get in!) There was a lot of building work going on as we were staying there although we refused to let that dampen our experience (and it also means there will be a lot more built now to enjoy this summer). There are lots of good places to eat (mostly cafes and bars/pubs in the centre of lagos, but if you go ...

Executive Decision Film Review

Advantages: Suspense
Disadvantages: Steven Seagal -- what?!

Prior to Executive Decision's release, Aikido superstar Steven Seagal had churned out a fair few unorthodox action movies -- fair enough, most of them were bad, but everyone kind of knew who he was. So, in 1996, a time when Seagal's chubby face was used heavily for advertising his latest movie with Kurt Russell, we began thinking that this was just another opportunity for him to kick some serious arse, right? Yes, but how wrong our pre-conceived thoughts were. Actually -- spoiler alert -- Steven Seagal ends up dying in this film rather early, before the main action has even begun. It's actually quite a pathetic state of affairs, and you begin to wonder why the hell he was cast at all. The first time I watched this film I thought the whole death thing was a joke and the seemingly-invincible action hero would later pop up towards the end ...
