Movie stars on the see-and-be-seen circuit head here during the film festival. It's a sophisticated rendezvous that serves some of the Riviera's finest hotel cuisine. The Taittinger family (of champagne fame) set out to establish a restaurant that could rival the competition -- and succeeded. The result is this tawny-colored Art Deco marvel with bay windows, a winter-garden theme, and outdoor and enclosed terraces overlooking the outdoor pool, the sea, and La Croisette. Menu items change with the seasons but are likely to include warm foie gras with fondue of rhubarb; filets of fried red mullet with a beignet of potatoes, zucchini, and olive-cream sauce; or crayfish, clams, and squid marinated in peppered citrus sauce. A modernized version of a Niçoise staple includes three parts of a rabbit with rosemary sauce, fresh vegetables, and chick-pea rosettes. The most appealing dessert is wild strawberries from Carros with Grand Marnier-flavored nage and "cream sauce of frozen milk." The service is worldly without being stiff.
Advantages: the only place to stay in Cannes Disadvantages: Probably not the most family friendly if your children aren't used to hotels.
...Le Carlton is an institution in Cannes! It is an amazing hotel with history back to the beginning of the 1900's. It was occupied by the Germans during the second world war. The two points on either side of the hotel were shaped after a woman's breasts. Just this information shows you that it is a hotel of immense history and character. The staff are the highest paid hotel staff in Cannes and possibly the Cote d'Azur and it shows in the quality of service. For a full experience try to get a room overlooking the front of the hotel, although the side rooms are larger and some do have partial sea views. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel over anyother in the area....

...and as such forms an international crossroads from which the Capitals of Europe can be reached in less than 2 hours using the many easy means of access.
Cannes as a destination attracts approximately 2 million tourists & business delegates per year and is ideally located on the French Riviera or "Cote D'Azur", approximately 30-50 minutes by road from Nice International Airport, which is the 2nd largest International airport in France*.
Famous for the film festival, Cannes also hosts numerous prestigious trade fairs / exhibitions throughout the year at the "Palais des Festivals et des Congres", which is located on the sea front along "La Croisette" - the main street of Cannes.
It is here at the "Palais des Festivals" that the Cannes film festival actually takes place, and I was only here during the last film festival, the weekend prior to the last...
