Advantages: Alien rooftop; Gaudí exhibition Disadvantages: Inclement weather may rule out rooftop visit
...A building with no straight lines and no reinforcing walls? Impossible, I hear you scoff. But that is exactly what Gaudí accomplished with astounding creativity and flair in LaPedrera.
"LaPedrera" translates to "the quarry", a nickname coined by the astonished population on its completion in 1910. Without doubt Gaudí's most important civil architectural work, it was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1984. Given a completely clean slate on which to design a corner apartment block, his aim was to create an utterly unique work. And once you've visited, you'd be hard pressed to argue otherwise.

...LaPedrera is in the heart of the Eixample district, the extension of the city planned by the engineer Cerda. The Eixample comprises a body of modern buildings unique in Europe full of beautiful architecture that makes you feel as though you are in another city somewhere. It is really pretty and walking up that road you come across such well-designed and pretty buildings.

Advantages: excellent, convienient location right on la Ramblas Disadvantages: there werent any for me!
...fine, on the small size! I would definitely go back to the hotel, and happily recomend it.
getting there - we got cheap flights from Bournemouth with Ryanair (£26.50, + 18 ish euros for a return ticket on Barcelona Bus from Girona airport right into the city to the bus station - and back).
Barcelona is one of my favourite cities - so full of life & variety yet i think it caters for all tastes - its got the beach, the Olympic stadium, Art & Gaudi & Dali, tango, tapas & tons more. My favs: palau dela musica - stunning, Bar Pastis - tango nights tues & thurs, Casa Mila (LaPedrera) - gaudi's chimneys so magical if you get as dusk is just coming (check opening times!).
Just writing this, I know now, I will be going back & staying again at Lloret - Barcelona is my fix & i want more. Hope you enjoy it too....
