The Discworld novels have been a series of books that friends and family have raved about for years and they?ve certainly made Terry Pratchett a household name. But I?ve never read them.
Recently, a customer persuaded me that I ought to give them a go, just to see what I?m missing out on, and suggested Pyramids as a good standalone novel in the Discworld series, so I settled down to bury myself in some comic fantasy and see what the fuss is all about.
Even now, having read the book and started writing this review, I?m a little confused as to whether I enjoyed myself whilst reading it or not. Certainly, Pratchett?s writing style is both easy to read and amusing. Sarcastic wit drops in at the end of paragraphs and quirky, offhand observations make you think about the way the world turns. His literary style is descriptive enough to form ...
Advantages: You get to climb these babies! Disadvantages: Getting there is a chore
We walked in through Gate 1, ignoring the offers of a taxi. This is a huge con, since the entrance is maybe 200m away. Again, we can thank the Aztec's mistakenness for the name, since they believed (wrongly) that the buildings lining it on either side were royal tombs. They weren't, but ...
Advantages: Great food, reasonable fixed price menu Disadvantages: None
On our recent trip to the Loire Valley Mr Tart and myself arrived in Tours quite late on our first night. We drove down to Tours from Paris. We were going to stop for something to eat on the way but in the end decided to make our way straight to Tours and get settled in the hotel and then find something close by. A couple of minutes from our hotel we came across this place and were really glad that we did.
LOCATION:
La Chope is located at 25 Avenue Grammont. Our hotel was on the same road so we just came across it. It is about a ten minute walk from Tours? old town. The restaurant doesn?t stand out and the sign is not particularly bright so make sure you look out for it.
THE EXPERIENCE:
La Chope (which apparently translates as the tankard) is actually a fish restaurant. I?m not really a fish person (ok, that ...
