Holiday Inn Bristol (Filton) - Loved it!

Advantages: Great value, staff attitude/professionalism,cleanliness, facilities
Disadvantages: External appearance

Booked a late deal on the HI website and got a substantial discount on an executive room. Although my wife and I often stay in Bristol, this was the first visit to the Holiday Inn at Filton. About 3or4 miles from the city centre, the hotel is just off J1 of the m32 and about 1 mile from J19 of the m4. Set in acres of park and woodland the only problem with the hotel is the rather dated exterior which could do with a freshen up. At initial reception we found the welcome to be genuinely warm and friendly. We received a brief rundown of the hotel facilities and services, and all my questions were answered professionally and with courtesy. The room was reasonably sized and spotlessly clean and very well maintained. Features included air conditioning, ironing board/iron, trouserpress, minibar, 10 channel tv with pay movies, great bed ...

Contemporary Arts in Bristol

Advantages: Good variety of events, many of which are free
Disadvantages: Hard to say

My second visit to Bristol was on a decidedly damp Saturday afternoon, so we were looking for places to spend some time inside. Having walked down the steep slope of Park Street and not being in any hurry to go back up, I suggested that the Arnolfini arts centre might not be too much further to walk. Situated on Bristol's Harbourside, it is easily reached by walking along the quayside from The Centre. From the south you can get there by crossing the swing bridge on Prince Street. Admission is free, so it is definitely worth a visit if you are interested in the arts. The Arnolfini has no permanent collection of artworks, so exhibitions change from time to time. There is currently (August 2008) a display described as an 'interactive shopping experience' entitled 'Far West'. Although not exactly my cup of tea, there was a degree ...
