INTRODUCTION:
Well this was my second trip to the Eternal City and I wanted to be a little closer than last time to some of the sights we wanted to see. So with the aid of the internet and Autoroute I found a hotel that looked OK and was fairly close to the Vatican and Castle d'Angelo - the Hotel la Rovere. The description made it sound like a reasonable hotel though not the cheapest and the pictures of the rooms looked OK too.
We took a taxi from the airport - those of you who have done this will know that there are more thrills in a taxi ride in Rome than any theme park ride! So scary I hardly opened my eyes to see some of the sites we were passing. Luckily it is not a hugely long trip and our taxi pulled up rather hesitantly in front of a flat fronted...

Advantages: See opinion Disadvantages: Not a thing....well....maybe the traffic!!

The fountain is probably one of the most visited places in Rome.
Thousands of people come to admire it every day and to throw a coin in its waters, because, according to the legend, the one who tosses a coin into the fountain ensures his or her return to Rome.
The whole city is a virtual museum in itself, and everywhere you turn you are reminded of its ancient past.
~ ~ If you have time to think about shopping after all the sight seeing, then Rome will not disappoint you.
The Italians in general, and the Romans in particular, are renowned for their sense of style and chic, and street after street of fine shops of every description pay testimony to why this is the case.
The best time to shop is in the morning...

Advantages: Position, clean, secure parking Disadvantages: Old fashioned
.... There are beaches within an hour's drive and some very pretty/towns villages on the way. The hotel is near the main Rome-Naples highway (non-motorway).
Overall, I would describe La Pace as adequate - certainly not the best hotel for the money, but nowhere near the worst!...
