This great value restaurant is the place to head for to enjoy authentic Valencian rice dishes. The paella valenciana is obviously the most popuar dish amongst visitors, but also worth a mention are the fideuá (paella with noodles instead of rice) and the fresh fish dishes cooked with garlic and pepper (all i pebre). Closed Mondays, at Easter and in August
Advantages: History, good food and attractions Disadvantages: Maybe not geared up for tourism
...of commercial and industrial enterprises as well as those working the La Huerta ( the green belt of most fertile land which sees up to four harvest in a year of a huge range of vegetables, fruit and of course oranges).
After such a pictorial airways entrance to Valencia the airport is a bit of a disappointment: it is messy all around the runway and the terminal a bit tired but it was a quick pass through the immigration and a long wait for luggage but then it was time to get into Valencia and explore its many historic and modern attractions.
I flew Ryannair which took around an hour and a half and then I took a taxi into the city but it is easy to take a train or bus and at a reasonable cost too. This was a budget holiday so I stayed in a hostel on the perimeter of the Old Centre and I am really pleased I did.

"" Food you must try: ""
* Paella, for sure, it is supposed to be the original one.
* Agua de Valencia, it is a cocktail made with cava/champagne, sugar, orange juice, vodka and gin.
* Sepia a la plancha (grilled cuttlefish), really tasty if you like seafood.
* clóchinas, mussels, usually prepared steamed with lemon and paprika.
* alioli or ajoaceite, this is really strong if prepared properly, is mashed garlic with oil, sometimes also has egg yolk, stronger than the one you find here.
* horchata, it is a cold drink made from "chufas" or tiger nuts. Looks almost like soya milk, buy it is really nutty. It has to be taken really cold or frozen.
Well, I finish it here; because I have realised it is getting too long!
Please be aware that this is my idea of the "Fallas" after living...

Advantages: Beautiful architecture, many shops and restaurants, history abounds but modern too Disadvantages: can't really think of any-drivers beware!

Sightseeing-
Well this is proably why most people visit. The history of the old town is fascinating and architcture is amazing. An absolute must see is the Caterdral Miguelete. Pay for the audio tour which explains the history of each part of the cathedral and finally climb the tower for amazing views over the city. Be warned however the steps are very steep and tiring and there is not much room to pass.
The Plaza De La Virgen is beautiful, particularly at nght. Wonderful fountain and a webcam so those at home can see you, check it out on the Valencia website before you travel.
The square is surrounded by bars and all the locals congregae here on Sunday evening, the place is buzzing and so relaxing. (We found Monday and Tuesday evenings very quiet)
Valencia is not all old town however. The river has...
