Disadvantages: not a lot for 'tweenagers' to do on board the ferries

...Brittany Ferries is not just a ferry operator, but also a holiday and hotel booking service. ~~ Booking ~~ Somehow, no matter how hard we try to plan things in advance we always do things at the last minute. Last July we decided, rather late in the day, that we’d like a ‘little holiday’ in France. This was to be our third short break in France, having previously travelled to Caen and Cherbourg, both from Portsmouth. This time we chose St Malo, and gave ourselves a week to arrange it and get there! Brittany Ferries offers what appears to be a great online booking service, trouble is we were too late to use it and I had to use the phone to make the booking, referring to the website to find details of hotels. Advantages: Reaches the destination on time
Disadvantages: Very uncomfortable journey if travelling with toddlers and luggage

...We have travelled from Plymouth to Santander with Brittany Ferries on several occasions. The service has always been punctual and the staff on board helpful. The cabins are quite unconfortable and very, very small. They are probably okay for passengers with no luggage. But if you have to carry luggage into your cabin you will struggle to move. If you have to use a cot you will have no floor space. With regards to children Brittany Ferries provide cots for children up to 12months of age. After that, and until they are old enough to sleep in a bed without falling off the edge, they have to either sleep in a bed with a parent (the beds are very narrow), sleep on the floor or the family will have to provide their own travel cot. Advantages: An amazing, mysterious place.
Disadvantages: You cannot get near the stones.

...Carnac, in Brittany, is one of the high places of megalithic culture. The great standing stone alignments are to Brittany what Stonehenge is to prehistoric England. I first visited this as a very young child and there is somewhere a picture of me sitting on a megalith aged about four. Nowadays though, a visit to Carnac is rather different, as the menhirs (a Breton word for standing stone) cannot be approached most of the time, due to the huge numbers of visitors to this site who had started to endanger the soil around the monuments. The Morbihan area is particularly rich in megalithic structures, and around Carnac itself, there are many outstanding monuments to visit such as the amazing sculpted cairn at Gavrinis or the megalithic ensemble at Locmariaquer which comprises two tumuli (covered tombs) and a massive standing stone which...
